20 Hall of Fame Members

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Many of you have probably noticed the Hall of Fame badges found on member’s profiles. Hall of Fame

You can see a current list of RHF Hall of Fame members anytime. If you want to have the Hall of Fame badge on your profile, all you have to do is compile 65 Participation Points. If you fill out your profile, then you’re almost halfway there. Plus, the more participation points you have, the more your vote counts.

Also, don’t forget to watch the weekly awards page to see where you stand. Are you one of the naughtiest or nicest people on the web? Can you comment more than tia-marie or Hagrid? Also, my favorite feature of the awards page is the All-Time Leaderboard.

Let us know if there are other things you’d be interested in knowing about the RHF community.

Medical Expenses for My Diabetic Parents Update

Monday, March 26th, 2007

icefire was nice enough to send us a video thank you note for granting her wish to have Medical Expenses for My Diabetic Parents. icefire hails from Davao City, Philippines. We think it’s pretty cool that Robin Hood Fund is able to help people out around the world. Check out her video:

icefire also told us:

I could not get my parents to talk in front of the cam but they are so thankful for the help. After the cheque cleared for about 45 working days, I hand over the money to them. They bought enough supply of medicines, a glucose meter set and some schedule for doctor check-up. In behalf of my parents, I would like to thank again, RHF for granting my wish :)

Keep the videos coming. We love getting updates on past wishes, highlighting our members, or video shout outs to your favorite member of Robin Hood Fund.

Community Members Go Overboard

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Audrey asked Robin Hood Fund for $30 to buy Cheese cake and Chicken Wings for 2. She’s been away from her partner for 4 months working for room and board on a sailing ship. Now all she wanted was a little money to buy her partner’s favorite foods.

Not only did she receive the $30, but the RHF community spoiled her with $90 of cold hard cash. That’s going to buy a lot of chicken wings and cheese cake. Enjoy the feast!

New Survey: Are You A Hopeless Romantic?

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Hey everyone!

So I’ve just finished uploading a new RHF Survey — titled the Are You A Hopeless Romantic? Survey! Not sure why I was on the topic of luv and romance, but it seemed to make sense to write this at the time. Take your best shot to see if you too are a Casa Nova, or are simply just an awkward mess. I wouldn’t take your results seriously, because I don’t want to be held liable for inflated egos or shattered dreams! Maybe put on a little Marvin Gaye or something before taking this wildcat on.

Catch ya on the flip side,

A Vacation and A Stem Cell Transplant

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Most of you have probably noticed our latest granted wishes. They were two of our most popular wishes of all time. One of the wishes got over 1000 wish points. That’s pretty incredible. Each wish will receive $594 towards their wish.

Congratulations to Ambrotos and her wish for A plane ticket to take a vacation and visit a friend and LieslMcQ and her wish for An autologous (not embryonic) stem cell transplant.

Also, we want to thank all the RHF community who went above and beyond in donating directly to LieslMcQ’s wish for a stem cell transplant. On top of the $594, she will be receiving $1341.

Good luck LieslMcQ and Ambrotos!

Clarification on Wish Granting

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

There has been some discussion in the community about how the $500 will be awarded if the wish has already been granted by the community. If someone wishes for $200 and the community donates $200 to that wish, then they will no longer be eligible for the $500 at the end of the week. However, if someone wishes for $10,000 and the community donates $2000 to their wish, then they will still be eligible for the $500 at the end of the week. Also, if a wish for $150 is the top wish at the end of the week, it will only receive $150. The other $350 will be given to the second place wish for that week.

A word of caution. If you only need $100 for your wish, then don’t change it to $500 just because you want the entire $500 pot. Wishes that ask for more than they need are usually voted down quickly by the community and are very unlikely to be the top wish.

One other clarification around the community granting wishes. If someone makes a wish for $200 and the community donates $600 to the wish, then the wisher will get the entire $600. Those donations were for that person and so they will get it all. That person is welcome to pay it forward by donating to another wish or to the fund, but it’s their money to do with it as they see fit.

Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion about granting wishes. If you still have questions, just ask and we’ll try to clear up any confusion.

Launching RHF Forums!

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Hey everyone,

After some blood, sweat, tears, and a little chocolate cake, RHF is happy to launch our Community Forums! There are places to discuss recent happenings on the site, talk to old winners, chat about absolutely anything you want, and to give feedback on the site and give us suggestions. We wanted to give our members a place to share their opinions about absolutely anything and we hope this is the best means of empowering your voice :) .

This is just the first iteration, of course, and we will be working out bugs and adding new features to make your experience even better!

Keep on truckin’ folks,

She’s Speechless

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

We recently wrote about the RHF community helping out Liesl with her wish for a Stem Cell Transplant. I guess all of the now $1178 in donations and the 226 comments have left Liesl speechless. Here’s what Liesl posted to her blog

I posted a “wish” on robinhoodfund.com and as it turns out, you can also donate to that person’s wish. I have been blown away by the people who have donated. I can’t get over it! This just reaffirms what I have known all along: people are basically good. Sure there are bad people out there, but they are the aberrations.

You go through life thinking people don’t really notice you because, why would they? There isn’t anything extra special about me or my life; but then something like this happens and you realize that the tiny ripples we make truly do have consequences. Of course, not all consequences are bad. I think the outpouring of love and support I have received would happen to anyone; I just happen to be the one who needs it.

I find myself walking with a lighter step and feeling less like a sick person since this support has been revealed. The world seems brighter and I am happier. It’s amazing what kind words and simple gestures can do for people. Honestly, I feel so good I wonder if I even need that stem cell transplant! I’m getting cocky! You know, a sweet man even made me a quilt so that I would have something warm and comforting to snuggle with in the hospital.

I matter. I matter because I am loved and love back. There is no way to express this worth without acknowledging that it is inextricably linked to every person who has told me they love me, are praying for me, or simply that they’re thinking about me. We are connected and will be for the rest of our lives. Lucky us.

Thanks Liesl. We’re glad to have you apart of RHF. You can still donate money for Liesl’s stem cell transplant.
