Adding a Video to Your Wish

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Many people in the RHF community enjoy seeing a video associated with your wish. While you can always just search YouTube for a video that relates to your wish, it’s always better to have a video that was specifically made for your wish. Not to mention YouTube can be a good way to promote your wish. Unfortunately, many of you aren’t sure how to post a video to your wish. Ed_rain recently offered to help people who want to post a video to their wish. Here’s his forum post offering his help:

Hey, if you have webcams or video camera things and are totally confused and want to add video to your wish, i’ll help you out, lots of fun times.

Ed_rain equals fun times.

Thanks Ed_rain for offering your help. We can’t wait to see some of the videos that are produced.

Video Podcast - Part 4!!!!

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Hi Everyone,

We recently took a lovely walk along the river and filmed the 4th RHF podcast! There is futuristic playground equipment, a Marrone stare that will melt hearts across the globe, a violent high five, and the disclosure about how to finally earn extra participation points (you’ll have to watch to find out!). We hope you enjoy it; I think it’s my favourite one yet!

Peace out,

A Couple Past Wishes - Nepal and Stem Cells

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

For those that don’t follow the RHF forums very much I wanted to highlight some of the updates we’ve received from people whose wishes have been granted. I’ll just post a part of what’s been said and a link to the forum where you can read the rest of the updates and ask questions from those whose wishes have been granted. Not to mention one of these wishes has a bunch of pictures posted online.

Trip to Nepal - Granted $520 So Far

Blu & I had an amazing journey in Nepal and India! 23 days in the field is a lot of time to recap in its entirety, so I’m going to touch on some of the highlights from the areas we went to. We started out in Nepal and had time in Kathmandu with the ex-street boys that live at the church as well as getting to minister in 2 villages up in the Himalayan Mountains. We spent the first 2 days in Kathmandu planning a worship outreach for the city that would take place when we returned from the villages the following week. The team spent time hanging out with the boys that live there at the church. There are about 10-12 boys that have been rescued from the streets ranging in age from 9-17. We’d met most of them last year so it was wonderful getting to reconnect and catch up with them. They are all in school and one boy has just 2 more years before he graduates. It’s great seeing these kids that didn’t have hope for a future at one point in life, now pushing forward and succeeding in life.

Stem Cell Transplant - Granted $2105 So Far

Thank you RHF and everyone who donated to my wish! I just got the funds and I am so thrilled! I have an outstanding bill with Northwestern that I will pay straight away and then save the rest for that hopeful day in Chicago when I get my life back.

We love hearing from our past winners. Let us know how things are going in our Winner’s Circle forum. More exciting updates to RHF on their way soon.

RHF Video Podcast: Segment 3!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Hello everyone,

This is our (belated) third installment of the critically-acclaimed series of RHF Video Podcasts! Stay glued to your screen as we discuss strip clubs, babies, and awards… (this may be slightly out of context, but when you watch it you’ll pick up what I’m laying down). This was recorded on a brisk spring day in Calgary, near what is commonly known as make-out point. We didn’t do any kissing, though our exuberant opening sequence probably suggests otherwise?

Enjoy!

RHF Wins a Webby Award!

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Hey everyone,

What an interesting week on RHF; the other day we learned that RHF has been recognized as an Official Honoree of the 2007 Webby Awards. For those not in the know, the Webby Awards are the online industries equivalent of the Oscars, and is “the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet”. To see Robinhood Fund rubbing elbows with other luminaries of the online world (:)), check out the Webby Awards’ website.

This award is due to our community just as much to the people who work on the site. In the end, the success of Robinhood Fund is entirely determined by the stories of our wishers, the compassion of our members, and the raw humanity on display every single day. I’d like to thank you all for making our happy little community a force to be reckoned with!

Keep Fit and Have Fun,

RHF Welcomes 10,000th Community Member

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop a quick note that Robinhood Fund welcomed its 10,000th member over the Easter Holiday weekend! Her name is xLipXServicex and she’s from California… I say welcome Ms. Service! To me, this was a very encouraging milestone, seeing as we’ve only been around for 4 months or so :) . Activity is increasing every week, and we hope our message and culture continues to proliferate.

Thanks!

Robinhood Fund gets widgey with it! (New browser toolbar and widgets)

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Robinhood Fund has released will soon be releasing the first version of our browser toolbar (currently only for FireFox users).
Grab it from our new downloads page.

Basic features of the toolbar:
- notifications whenever you receive a new private message or friend request
- integrated searching
- a “Make A Wish” button
- and more…

The “Make A Wish” button now makes creating a wish even easier than before. Browsing the web and see something you like? Click the “Make A Wish” button, click on the image of the thing you liked, then submit the pop-up wish-form and your dancing.

Also new on Robinhood Fund, are the Wordpress blog widget and Joomla CMS module for promoting a wish. These can also be found on the downloads page, as well as on the wish promotion page (click the “Tell Friends” link on the wish pages). You can install these widgets/modules on your own site to promote your own or anyone else’s wish!

Good luck to everyone!

IRC Chat Room by Tia-Marie

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

If you haven’t been watching the forums lately, then go check them out. There’s been quite a few good discussion going on about past winners, voting on wishes, and other ideas on how to make Robin Hood Fund that much better.

In the forums, a few Robin Hood Fund members thought that a chat room would be a great addition to the RHF community. Turns out that Tia-Marie thought that was a good idea and has created an Unofficial RHF Fan Chat Room. You can find out more by checking out the forum post. It’s hosted on Tia-Marie’s server so feel free to contact her if you have specific questions about the chat.

It’s great to have community members so interested in making the Robin Hood Fund community a success.

RHF Video Podcast: Part 2!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Over the weekend, the RHF team went out to Banff National Park, and ran into some lovable hijinx at Lake Louise videoing our second postcast! Isn’t it ridiculous that that’s only an hour away from RHF headquarters :) ? Ok, Ok, I can hear you throwing things at your monitors, I’ll stop rubbing it in!

Follow along as we run down the past week’s winners, our favourite video & member, and Short Stack’s Tip of the Week (not to mention some precarious mountain scrambling trying to get the whole thing on film)! And yes ladies, Marrone is in this one again!

Enjoy!
