Greetings and Salutations

July 22nd, 2008

Hello!

As you read from Blue’s last post, we are super excited about Greedy or Needy and the upcoming changes! Over the next few months you will be seeing some great new features being rolled out to help make GoN a more efficient and snappy. We are excited to hear from you regarding any features or changes you might have, and you can feel free to give me a shout to let us know what you would like to see down the road.

One of the best things about GoN is it’s community, and how it connects people from across the globe, and I am excited to be a part of that. Please feel free to add me as a friend, follow me on Twitter,, or read up on Giving 2.0 here. If you want to know more about me or what we are up to over here, just ask. For example

Question: “Hey Doug, whats your favorite color?”
Answer: “Gray…but I am really trying to like green.”

Its just that easy! I am really looking forward to meeting you all, and Blue and I will keep you posted on whats going on here in the background.

Till then, keep on wishin’!

-Doug

welcome Dreamy Doug the biggest suggestion I can make is only allowing 2 accounts per household to cut down on the number of multis here. Oh wait is it to late to tell you to RUN?

    Hello!

I would love to see the top wishes checked at the end of voting rounds like they use to be over a year ago. We use to have 24 pages of wishes - lately there is only 7 pages of wishes since many folks have stopped wishing due to the cheating.

I don’t know if this possible but it would be nice in the forums to see if someone has responded to a thread response to one’s self.

Welcome ! I think the ideas of limiting the number of members per household and checking the winners voting to eliminate the multis are great ideas.

    Hi Doug,
I think weekly or monthly (at the least) communication and response would be wonderful to restore morale on GoN. When we make suggestions and they are responded to then it makes us want to make the site better.
As several people have already suggested limiting the number of accounts per person would make people feel as though the voting is more fair.
I would like to be able to click on several of my messages (pm’s) at once and file them all together. It takes forever to try to file messages in folders.
I think it would be great to have an ignore button below someone’s avatar. That way if they are a nuisance or troublemaker we can ignore them more easily.
Looking forward to your input. Jenny :)

I’d agree with everyone else about limiting the number of accounts that a person can have here. I realize that at this point, that would be a huge undertaking and in some cases, not possible to achieve but, you could make us feel better by letting us know it was something you’d be willing to do. Even if it was just a willingness to check the IPs of certain members if it was brought to your attention.

I think that it’s been explained a number of times that it’s really hard to know if the accounts are from one household or not. They could possibly mitigate some of the duplicates, but they’d never be able to stop it completely.

My point isn’t to say that something shouldn’t be done or that your point isn’t important. My point is that you have to think of more creative ways to prevent this type of spamming since households is easily gamed.

For example, a better suggestion would be to suggest that people have to reach a certain level of activity for their votes to count. Or what about this…you have to add $2 to your account which you can use to support a wish on GreedyOrNeedy before you can vote. Maybe you even let people vote all they want without donating, but the votes won’t count. This is all just off the top of my head, but my point is that you have to find a much more creative way to prevent spamming than just saying 2 households which is nearly impossible to enforce.

    hello everyone

I have developed a website to tell my side of the story. Every word is true; maybe I can sell it to a writer or producer. Perhaps you know a producer. This is a must read with a link to tell me what you think. Maybe you are a lawyer and can offer advice as to how I can clear my name. Either way, you won’t believe what she did!

    everyone deserves a second chance

    be blessed
