Hey Wendy, Something happened when I went to vote yesterday. I thought I had clicked on 5 stars but found out that somehow it hit 3. How did that happen??? Is there some way I can fix it? I meant to vote 5 stars....any help?

Good Morning,
Mark 13 v 20-23
God has decided to make that terrible time short. Otherwise, no one would go on living. But God will make that time short to help the people he has chosen. At that time, someone might say to you, ‘Look, there is the Christ!’ Or another person might say, ‘There he is!’ But don’t believe them. False Christ’s and false prophets will come and perform great wonders and miracles. They will try to fool even the people God has chosen, if that is possible. So be careful. I have warned you about all this before it happen.
In this passage Mark is recalling Jesus talking about 'things to come', in other words what we might call the end times. His key point though is that we should stand firm in our faith despite all the terrible things going on around us. No matter how bad it seems God is in control and is watching out for us, even to the extent of "making that terrible time short" because he knows it would be too much for us.
When we are faced with a difficult task it is often easier to achieve when we block out all other distractions and think only about the task. Jesus now encourages us to us that same approach. Part of standing firm is keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus. Our relationship with him is what provides us with security. Jesus warns that people will come and try to distract us with new heroes and 'holy men' who seem to have fantastic image and all the right talk but that we should not be fooled by them.
We need to take the time now to get to know Jesus so that we will recognize him when it gets rough! Our faith is not based on how we 'feel' but the knowledge of what Jesus has done for us and the security of that relationship. Jesus is warning us to get ready and stand firm.
Prayer
Lord, so much of what we say does not honor you. Forgive us, Lord. Holy Spirit, help us to examine our words today. “Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; Keep a watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141 v 3). Let every word be like worship to you. Amen
I am so excited about what Blu and Wendy are doing. They are obedient! I know God is pleased, so I have been prayed about it and I have been obedient and contributed $200.00 to their cause for Christ! Fellow Christians, chatters, supporters, non-believers join me and make a contribution, or even match my contribution for a very good cause. God blesses us for what we do for others not for what we do for ourselves. Let's all press towards the mark of a higher calling! Have a great day, all! W Dallas

Blu & Wendy, I hope all goes well. You two TOTALLY deserve to win. Many here don't know how much that you do to help the homeless and less fortunate here in our city. You guys are awesome.
Oh and I still think Blu is "the best" at fixing up messes. He did such a wonderful job on our house...which by the way we are supposed to close on this coming week and move.
The best to you two.

We've updated our wish a bit with a decrease in amount needed to reflect the money we've gotten in over the past week.
I also wanted to mention that in regards to the issue that some folks have about the wish amount being more than what RobinHood gives out - I think I figured something out.
I believe that they pose the question in the Make A Wish section, "How much do you need to fulfill your wish" - so that folks know the exact amount and that way people can donate directly to the wish if they want to. It also lets people know what the full need is - and hopefully people will give when they can personally to help fulfill some of the needs listed in addition to what is in the jackpot from RobinHood.
So I don't think it's an issue of what RobinHood does or doesn't have to give. Otherwise they'd put a stipulation in stating that your amount for a wish cannot exceed the funding amount that is alloted for the timeframe that your wish is in.
So that's all, thanks for all the support and votes, even though it doesn't look like we are going to win. But congrats to all those that are in the lead! And I'm super glad we found this page, we will certainly continue to use it and let friends know about it!

PS. Blu and I were able to purchase plane tickets today finally! ?)

pacopaco - you are correct, it would be great to send all the money over there directly, but the people we work with invite us over to work alongside them. and last year we did raise $25,000 that went directly to one of the villages and their needs. not to mention the fact that about 10 families in our church sponsor families over there monthly with financial contributions and when we go, a large portion of the money that we raise goes directly into the hands of the people we meet.

9,500$? I feel like that would go a much longer way over in nepal than in flying you guys over there and taking care of your bills while you're away. the money could go to food/clothes/wages for your people in nepal to use.

Shaina- thanks for the vote! those are horrible stories, but i'm sure stuff like that happens more than we know. it's a really sad thing. i wish all those that claimed to be christians would learn that compassion and mercy are the important aspects and not only focused on increasing their "numbers". when we were there last year we helped anyone in need regardless of their beliefs - and i think that's important. i hope you get to visit nepal soon! where abouts is your husband from in nepal?

Namaste! i found you guys from facebook group and its given me hope for a trip back home to Nepal for my husband. I have heard some bad stories from him about some missionaries there that were telling them they had to eat meat to become a christian and were trying to pay them to eat the meat. I hope that you guys will be a example to true service and love in Nepal and India to replace these horrible stories. Good Luck!

Hagrid - It's all good. Bottom line is that each person ultimately makes the choice for themselves and the church that we are working with was established well before we came along, and they chose to build a church after hearing the gospel and deciding for themselves. It's the same as you choosing not follow after having heard the things you've heard. No one is being forced to believe, no one is being held at gun point to believe and when people choose not to believe it is totally okay.
So like I've said before - no worries on this front. It's just seems like you give other cultures so little credit to think that they only respond out of being forced - they make the choice and if that's what they choose after hearing then that is their right as much as it is to not choose to follow it.
I think it's good that we can have a "healthy" debate over this. ?)

I'd rather grant a wish to my lower intestines.
Blu & Wendy - You're right, you're not breaking any rules by inviting people to this site to vote for your wish. I have a slightly better understanding of how this site works since writing that, and so I retract that objection -- though it is also within my rights now to go out and publicize this site to other atheists, asking them to come vote against your wish -- that's how this site works.
No, I do not hold ill will towards you personally, but I believe that missionaries do more harm than good, especially when they go to places to build churches under the guise of 'Christian love.' No doubt you are well-meaning people who believe you are doing your god's work, but I see your work in a completely different light - I see it as cultural imperialism.
I don't think that I've been especially the recipient of Christian hatred - though it has happened on occasion when I have spoken out - but that's not what my objection to your wish is about.
My objection to your wish is twofold: 1.) Missions are a bad idea done with good intentions, and 2.) You're asking for way too much money for the Robin Hood Fund. As a general rule, I will always vote "no" on wishes that are specifically for promoting Christianity. It's not personal against you - though I suppose it could be said it is personal against your chosen deity.
Debzheart - No, I'm not 'burned' (though I do believe you are 'deceived'). I just think of it of having had 'the scales fall from my eyes' and seeing the universe for what it truly is - a godless, creator-less place, where the only good comes from the good we do for each other. Without god, it's vital that we take care of each other, because no spirit is going to come down from the sky and do it for us. That's why I love The Robin Hood Fund - it's a chance to do good for each other. The world is a better place because of this site.
Lil Sis: I am delighted that you have decided to stick around and vote for other people's wishes.

I'm so proud of both of you. This is something not many people are willing to do. Going into a country and spreading the love of God and helping others in need, even if that means putting your personal safety at risk, not to mention the burden on your finances as you take leave for that long of a time. I love you guys and will be praying for you.

Wendy and Blu i love you guys and i hope that you guys win and heres why. The work that you guys are going to do is more than myself or anyone else could handle it takes a good group and good hearted people to go and do what you guys are going to do and you are stepping out in your faith to share what you believe and thats the hardest thing in the world to do you guys are so strong and i know that you guys will go and do what GOD has called you to do. I am very proud of the both of you and the rest of the team that is going on this mission trip you are all very strong and you are going to have many more people like HAGRID put you down for what you are doing and not believe in you but thats what is good about the whole team you keep going no matter what i man i wish i could have that much in me to keep going you guys keep your heads up and dont let anyone knock you down. AND AS FOR HAGRID in regards to his comment that he left i would be willing to stay and vote for more people if they are wanting a wish to come true that i like this wish because the cause of this wish will help so many other people and its not a selfish wish so yes i will stay around and vote for others that want to help others

And Hagrid – I just wanted to say again that blu and I totally respect your beliefs and hold no ill will or bad feelings towards you for voicing them. It’s totally fine.
I did want you to know though that when we go to Nepal we are working alongside an already established Christian church that reach out to those in need with genuine love and compassion-not hand outs for forced conversions. For us (Blu & I) it is truly not about and forcing or pushing our beliefs on those that believe differently just to gain numbers. We believe that our lives are to be a reflection of what our beliefs are and that through that hopefully others will come to know Christ as we’ve come to know him. And that’s all about experiencing him for yourself and for each person that will look different.
Even here at home we have the same mindset and I work in a church fulltime –and while it’s a wonderful and exciting thing when people make the decision to accept Christ, we also know that being forceful and pushy is not the way to do it. It’s truly about living transparent and real lives – sharing our faults as well as our good qualities with those we meet and being honest about what we believe in and sharing why we believe that way when opportunities arise. And that’s the example Christ set – you knew what he believed, he loved all those he encountered, and he explained to those he met what he believed. But he never did it out of hate, forcefulness, or anger.
And I want to apologize to you on behalf of any person claiming to be a Christian that has only represented hate or negativity towards you or anyone else by trying to force you into their beliefs or by condemning you for not believing. I know that my own husband, Blu, experienced various forms of condemnation during a time in his life when he was very anti God and any sort of religion and it only fueled him further in that direction.
But the thing that brought him around to a place of being able to even dare to look into who Christ truly was for himself, was the fact that his immediate family consistently prayed for him, shared their hearts with him when opportunities arose, and then allowed God to handle the outcome. He knew where they stood, he knew that he didn’t feel the same, but he also knew he would be loved by them regardless. And so he eventually found himself searching it out on his own just to be able to understand it more and I believe that that is a true example of what a Christ follower should be for those around them.
Blu & I have numerous friends that have beliefs that are far different from ours, but they know we love them regardless and we do pray for them (& they know we do), but the choice is up to them. It’s all about being honest, real, and genuine with them.
So I am sorry if you’ve ever experienced the harsher side of what Christians can be and act like. I know in the past I’ve been the same way, but I’ve truly been humbled over the years and bottom line is all I’ve got to offer is what Christ has done in my life and people are welcome to take it or leave it and that is alright. But I’ll love them regardless.
Thanks techguy for the suggestion and Deb, Steph, Mom, & others for the continued support!

I think we should all personally donate $10 to this wish. I'm waiting for a payment to my PayPal account and then I'm going to Donate to this wish. If we all just donate $10, then it will go a long way.

I am so excited about this and for you both!! Blu, having been a witness to your life, and now to Wendys and your life together, I KNOW the genuine LOVE y'all have for God and for others. I know that you share this love through action & compassion, and not by force or pressure.
I also know the great sacrifices you've made to help others, and the "challenges" that you've gone through that would have discouraged many others from doing this again!
( IE: Your home being so badly damaged by water while you were there ministering to others, the car accident, the financial burdens, and many others) And yet you both keep on with a heart of gratitude and love!!
You always have my vote!!
One last thought......God Bless you Hagrid! You seem a very intelligent, thinking man, although somehow maybe 'burned'. If you ever need a helping hand, or human compassion, all these guys are there for you to turn to.
They don't care if you are an atheist or not....there are no 'hoops' to jump through!
and no 'payments' required!
Blu & Wendy, Love you with all my heart!!! You're always in my prayers!!
God bless you and the whole team!!

In response to "stacking the odds in our favor"...in the Robinhood FAQs I read the following:
Can I promote my wish to friends and family?
Of course. The more views your wish gets, the better chance it has of being granted. To link directly to your wish, just copy the URL that is listed on your wish details page. Use Link Promotes to reach blog, e-mail, and YouTube viewers.
So it appears that this isn't an issue. And I learned about the website myself through an email asking me to vote for the Mozambique guy - and that was an email generated to all the vineyard churches for their support. so I think that the idea is for this site to spread by word of mouth.
i know i certainly will continue to use the site and i'm sure many of our friends will too. it's a great site.

Wendy & Blu have done amazing things in their church and in Nepal. I support them wholeheartedly in their endeavor. If God wants them in Nepal to further His mission He will help them get there. They are very committed to this mission trip and doing God's work in other countries.

I have been on a couple of mission trips myself, not to mention trips that are simply to learn about other cultures, countries and the beautiful people that are apart of those countries. Nothing can compare to the experience of co-existing in another country with its people and realizing that we all have beautiful souls with the same basic needs. If one person, or nine, or many more can help out others for the good of humanity in one part of the world, why would anyone want to stifle that? To me one's faith comes out in how one gives and share with other human beings, whether Christian, Atheist, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Mormon, etc... How can it not? According to the description about this mission trip, this mission is to share love and resources with other human beings in need. If God shines through that and the people living there want to take part in that, what harm is there? How can you FORCE someone to believe in God? It sounds to me like Hagrid is over-generalizing mission trips. Careful! Not everyone and everything fit into stereotypes! I fully support Blu & Wendy in this adventure.

I'd rather grant a wish to my lower intestines.
Now this is interesting: Of the 13 people who have commented in support of this wish today, fully 10 of them are brand new users today, and none of them have commented on any other wish on the site or participated in the Robin Hood Fund before.
That makes me VERY suspicious. It appears to me that Blu & Wendy have publicized their wish on an email list or message board of some kind for missionaries and their supporters, attempting to stack the odds in their favour of getting this wish by encouraging their friends to come here and vote.
Not that I object to new people participating on the site; hopefully some of these people will stay and participate beyond Blu & Wendy's wish. But I hope the Robin Hood Fund will take this into account.
I am doubtful that Blu & Wendy will win - they are asking for 9.5 times the amount that Robin Hood Fund has allocated for this week. But maybe some of their new supporters on here will donate to the fund to make their wish come true.
An aside to David Bauder: That's your opinion. You're entitled. Me, I don't believe in god any more than I believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Without God, we would have no home or world to go to. We are all in need of salvation. God Bless you!

Hmmmm... as an atheist, I can't support this wish. After all, this wish isn't just about helping the needy in Nepal and India - it's about making new converts for your religion. If the trip was just about helping people, without the religious aspect, I could support it... but the real goal here is to convince these people to abandon their traditional belief systems and become Christian. It smacks of cultural imperialism, and I cannot support it.
By al means, go out into the world and help people... but leave your gods at home.
Thumbs down to this wish.
