Picture this...
You have to drive your daughter to school, but you can't.
Why? Because you left your carseat in the van and your husband took the van to work lol.
This is something that happens to us on a weekly basis. Luckily, my mom lives two blocks away, so I can call her when I have a carseat/driving kids to school emergency. Still.. its a pain in the backside. I'm sure my mom would much rather sleep in, than getting up to take a child to school because her parents forget to take the carseat out of the van.
This would all stop and my mom would get her much needed sleep, if I had an extra carseat to keep in the van. That way, I wouldn't have to transfer that big old lunky thing everytime we want to go somewhere in the van. (Let me explain... if we go somewhere where we actually want to open the drivers side door, we need to take the van. But thats a whole other story lol) Plus, have you ever transferred a carseat? Dealt with readjusting the seatbelts? Tried to stick your arm through that tiny hole? Now, think about this... have you ever done all that when you have 10 minutes to be at the school dropping your daughter off? (lol)
Anyways, I found some on walmart.com that range from $45.00 to $150.00 .... so I figured I'd shoot for middle range $75.00. I may change it later, after I've actually been to Walmarts and checked out the $45.00 carseats to see if they look safe.

This is a definite need. You have my 5 to help keep the little ones safe. Good luck.
Also ANY car seat being sold (until its recalled ) is safe, stores cannot sell carseats that are not safe. buy one with the least amount of padding. Padding compresses during an accident and allows for room for a child to be thrown from a car seat since the straps expand up to 4 inches in a crash. Name brands hike up the cost also, as do car seats with more "frills" the basic is just as safe. Most of my car seats have come from walmart or Toysrus and cost around $50 or less, check the link below I posted on where is the best place to latch in car seats in different cars.
Once a car seat is safetly installed it should not be taken out. Having a car seat safetly installed in BOTH cars is very important. It takes at least 1o minutes or MORE to safely install a car seat. You have to get into the car seat with your knees and pull the seatbelt so tight, you cannot move the car seat sideways or up and down at all. This is a good request and yes I have struggled with car seats for kids. Make sure to get a good one and don't install it in the front seat but in the right rear seat.

Perhaps, the lobbyists and the elected officials they've railroaded into passing legislation to make all of this "safety" equipment required when taking your kids out for a drive should help foot the bill on this one!
Thanks to those wonderful airbags, you can't even have your baby in the front passenger seat with you anymore!
I'm all for legislation that says that baby carriers must be secured to the seat in some way, but those airbags that will decapitate your babies and crush your older children if you bump your vehicle in the wrong way have been a bad joke!
And carriers for older kids!?!
I used to buckle my younger cousins, godchildren, and other kids in my charge into their seats, and they were just fine!
But this is now the rule, so this is a necessity and not a luxury!
Your children may have been fine in a regular seatbelt, but many in their generation were not. Your kids were just lucky.
The cost of a rearing a child is mind-boggling. Carseats are just a small part of the cost of having offspring. Can't afford a $45 carseat? Then don't have kids!
But I agree a little. Carseats for infants and children 4 and under, I totally agree with. In Michigan (where I live) there is some new law that anyone under 4'9 has to be in a booster seat. My daughter is almost 10 lol, there is no way I will make her sit in a booster seat. By these calculations, my other daughter, who is 13 now, would have had to be in the booster seat until she was 12. Crazy. lol, My aunt Judy almost has to sit in a booster seat, at her 4'11, and she is 60! lol.

I know the feeling, I have 8 children am now down to one in a booster. Now I have 2 grandchildren that we have to move car seats if we want to take them. If your looking for a booster seat, they have them for $30 at big lots, that where we got my sons at and they also have them at target. The graco brand is what we got and its a really good one.

Just a note.... I just want to make sure things are looked at fairly lol.... We do have one carseat. I only put this in the greedy catagory because of that reason. Because to me, an extra one would be a nice luxury, we all know switching them around is a pain in the rear lol. I haven't gotten any pms or anything to the contrary, I just wanted to explain again why I put the carseat in the greedy catagory, before someone comes along and yells at me that its a need lol. ;)
We have the $45 Walmart one... I had it as a second carseat but changed it to primary because I like it a lot better than the more expensive one we had
