I also had to wear hand-me-downs for most of my childhood and adolescence, 20 or 30 years out of date and ill-fitting. I was teased and bullied mercilessly, and I wish that my own mum at least understood what I went through, even though I knew back then that there was really nothing that she could do about it. I personally know this family. This sweet little girl deserves this! She's such a kind, smart, sensitive child. I don't think she has ever had a new wardrobe in her life. Even her baby clothes were second hand. Please make her wish come true!

i can relate to you coz am a single mom and my son goes to a private school here in our place... even though we are not as rich as his classmates, he never felt bad about it. its a matter of making ur baby stand out on some other ways. like she may not have those fancy dresses but she is great on her grades or she is very good in acting or dancing. u got my vote...good luck :)

Your daughter will someday meet another person who feels left out, doesn't have that nice of clothes, is physically disabled, etc. She will have a lot of empathy and understanding for them, and be able to say, "I know exactly how you feel." She will be able to resist being mediocre because everything was given to her, and she will appreciate even the simple things in life. She will be able to survive and even prosper in a discouraging world where the beautiful flowers around her now who look down on her will wilt and she will grow up, rise above everything in the sunlight, and do great things and change the world in a positive way. Tell her that she is beautiful every day, and tell her that God made her special and that God gave her things to do that no one else can do. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, not bad ones, but good ones, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11. I was picked on and ridiculed constantly because I never had the "right" clothing, shoes, etc. I truly hope you win this because that kind of stuff stays with a person for life. Please join freecycle.org, it is a recycling type organization, and many many people give away like new clothing and other items. Good luck to you and your daughter!

Good luck to you both! Having three daughters on my own it's soo tough too. I'm always looking for good sales on the stuff they like. I even wore boys hand me down smyself and my mother bought me ridiculous ill-fitting clothes growing up so I know the feeling. Tell your daughter she is beautiful both inside and out! Ask her which clothes she likes and if SHE likes them nothing else matters, true friends like you for who you are! Being beautiful on the inside shows through to the outside too making you even more beautiful. I hope you get your wish!

You get a 5 for sure from me! I was a single mom with 3 kids, and no money, no child support. I remember pawning a ring my mother gave me (I've seen her 2x's in 30 yrs, so it was special to me), just to get my daughters a winter coat and boots. Their father wouldn't help me at all. It's a terrible feeling not to be able to give your child what they need.

She had such a low self esteem even in adulthood because she wore her brother's boy cloths to school (even as a teenager). When I was in school, we didn't have much money and I had to wear thrift store clothing. I know how awful I felt when all the other kids were wearing clothes from the Mall. I wish you luck. Just an idea... I don't spend very much money on my kids clothes, but they are dressed very well. Usually in Gap, Gymboree, etc. I only shop clearance racks and buy for the next year.I then store the clothes until they fit into them. Most of the time I get clothes for cheaper than at the thrift store! This is also nice because I can just buy one or two things when I see a good price and when the kids outgrow a size I'm not stuck trying to buy a whole new wardrobe at once.

Other kids can be mean. I know that, I was always the outcast in school too. There were many times I thought having "cool" things or clothes would make a big difference. They really didn't. The other kids found something else to focus on and some other reason why I was unacceptable. I was lucky. I had great parents and siblings who boosted me up and taught me that it really doesn't say anything about me when those people are so mean. Your daughter will do just fine, she has a great mom! This is a really worthy cause and if you do not win (because really I am hoping to win.... but I want your daughter to have her clothes too....) try contacting some local helping groups. let them know the situation and what kinds of clothing your daughter is really wanting, what the other kids are wearing. I have obtained some really "cool clothes" or my boys through a local clothing exchange program, some were even new with tags on. Good luck to you and your daughter!

It is ashame that society has affected our kids like this. The name brand you wear does not determine the kind of person you are on the inside.

Good luck, having no friends sucks, and kids can be pretty shallow. Hopefully she can meet some other kids that aren't so mean and obsessed with looks though.
