Just a quick note to tell all of you that Liesl went to the ER with stroke-like sypmtoms and she's being transferred into ICU. That's a new one. She seems fine, but she had slurred speech for a long time and couldn't keep herself standing. We'll let you know what is happening as soon as we know. Thank all of you for your well wishes.

I really hope that I can get some help. I am at my wits end. I don't know what else to do or where else to turn. If I had the money I would pay off all of his bills and buy his meds, but I can't evn afford my own bills and meds. I feel so bad, because he has done so much for me through out my life, and it just kils me that I can't do the same for him. He is just such a great man! It's such a serendipitous thing, really. My husband and I have kicked around the idea of a foundation for two years but seemed kind of stuck in choosing the direction. There are foundations for everything these days so we wanted to do something that needed a foundation. stem cell research and helping people who have incurable diseases find hope is probably the exact right direction to take. You know, sometimes you just need to spread the fortune around to be worthy of it.

I wanted to add an update: There is still the miniscule chance that Cigna could approve our appeal (so doubt that) or that Oprah could heed the hundreds of letters she has received about me and pay for the treatment. If that happens we have decided to use this money to start a foundation, if y'all are amenable to that idea. We've been kicking this around for a month or so with some friends and talking about what kind of foundation we would start. I think we've narrowed it to a stem cell research foundation or a charitable giving foundation. Though, if it is the latter we have agreed that I am not to be let anywhere near the money because I would give it away within an hour. :>
This whole thing has been amazing and I want to pay it forward in every way possible. Y'all rock, this site rocks, we rock!

I mean, nothing major between the two of us, but there was the whole, you know, thing. Anyway, I love that you are here supporting this! you are proving to the world that we are all just good people and we want to care about everyone. I love this! It is a clinical trial, and officially our company's Cigna plan won't cover clinical trials unless they are for cancer studies. Northwestern doesn't have funding for patients for this trial. We are in the process of appealing the insurance denial, and if it remains denied, yes we will have to pay for it ourselves. There are no guarantees with 99% of medical proceedures in general, but the outlook for an extended remission is very good. And yes, we are pursuing other measures, since we would still have plenty of expenses even if the trial does get insurance approval.

Tab! There's a scleroderma transplant at the NIH which is totally funded. They pay for everything! You should do it!
I would love to, but right now my kids are coming first. They didn't take my last hospital stay well. I could just see what would happen with a three or more month stay in another state. Also, I haven't found anyone willing to take someone with several autoimmune diseases. I can find a trial for Scleroderma or Lupus but not them together. My day will come though.

I would do it today if I didn't have my kids to worry about. Miki really went through a lot when I had my surgery back in October. We are just now getting her back to her normal self. That would all change though if I have another major flare. I do try to keep up with the research. My hope though is to find someone to do it when both kids are away at college. That is several years away I know, but maybe by then they would be better able to handle things.

Really the best way to deal with flaimbaiters is let them have their say. When you give them attention it is exactly what they want. Besides, when you know that you're legit you don't have to even bother with the claims of others. You have provided ample data for a person to research you (I know, I have straight down to the Delphi forums and I believe I know what this guy is referencing) and they will come to the same realization that I did, if you weren't legit you've done a great deal of work to orchestrate this (like more work than most scammers are even willing to consider), but I digress.
