I've been asking the people I know in several places online, in my family and in my church to help me out.

I feel a bit guilty because there are others whose wishes are equally important

but at the same time I know that I need this chance.

yep, it's a lot of work, but they are worth it. I do think that every mom needs a break once in a while, and some mom's for one reason or another refuse to allow themselves that break. Last year, before I took a week away I had a lot of people tellingme I shouldn't go... they never went on vacation, or wouldn't go on vacation while their kids were so young etc....

Personally I think the break made me better able to cope when I got back, and the boys saw that I went, and returned, and I think that it is good for children to see that and help them know that I'm not going to abandon them, even if for some reason I have to take a break for a couple of days.

I hope that you too sometime get to step away from all of your responsibilities just to be you for a while.

Hey, well, I can certainly understand your wish too. Someday I'd like to have some hiking and camping equipment to do some nice long hikes. I have done one several day hike and loved the hiking and camping parts... the only thing is that next time I'd want to go with a group of my choice (went with a college course group) filled with people who want to be there, and where I know that certain types of stupidity will not occur. Well thank you. If you're interested I run the Sudbury Outers Club ([ link ] whose mandate is to introduce and encourage people to get out camping and enjoying nature by offering accessible trips. The club is open to all, and all trips are non-profit. Its a bit of a ways from Timmins, but we often head into the Temagami region, which isn't too far...

Well, people keep telling me that, but my wish looks somewhat selfish beside wishes like yours. Although I feel that getting this break will make my life better, I do not need to to live. I did not want my wish to compete against yours. Thank you.

Oh honey! Self interest is not the same thing as selfishness. If you were being selfish you would have wished for something to the exclusion of all others. And I absolutely know what it means to miss a friend. I really hope you win and stop thinking you're being selfish.

I want to go to Portland, Oregon. I managed to get out there last year and had a wonderful time with my friend and came back less overwhelmed and more able to deal with my children's daily needs. It was good for me to get away and also for my boys. I'm in a little city in Northern Ontario Canada so flying anywhere is quite expensive from here, because we are an out of the way place. The nearest major airport is an 8 hour drive.

I've never been to Portland, but it sounds like it'd be a nice change of pace :). I've never been out in Northern Ontario either, I'd love to get out to the shield!

If you like hiking and camping Northern Ontario has some great places to visit, if you come in the summer, be sure to bring bug repellent we have mosquitoes of record size up here!
