I always donate my cash to the local Salvation Army cuz they do filled backpacks for needy kids here but, I can give you 5 stars.
good luck! I know what ur saying! I was a regular substitute in an elmentary and middle school for 2 yrs & the younger kids would fight becuz a few of the kids who didn't have colored pencils, markers, or some nicer supplies would lie, thinking if they stole from the kids who had supplies, then they'd have supplies too (and just where do u think they learned that from?). I had 1 father even come to the school & tell me the markers his daughter stole (they were very poor, but there were substance abuse issues) & got in trouble for stealing were indeed his daughters. I'd seen the rightful owner of those markers with them many times before & knew they were hers. He shut up when I showed him the other childs' name on them & many students said his daughter stole them from the other girls' desk. The older kids without supplies often just don't do their work bcuz they are too embarrassed (peer pressure) to say they don't have paper, pens, pencils to do the work!
Maybe you could even try having a bake sale or a yard sale and let customers know that all proceeds will go to help these children in need.
and they don't pay much on that.
The whole idea is for the pta members to gather as much money as they can to help the children that live in low income families.
Some of the other parents have donated items but not near enough.
It breaks my heart to see a child cry because he or she doesn't have the propper items to learn.
Though the teachers get a certain amount of money to spend on their classes, they can't spend it all on supplies for the needy children. I dont know what type back grounds they come from, what thier home life is like. but every child needs a good education and the proper supplies to do so.

These children are from very poor families. and can hardly afford pencils. Education is important for all children, and when your friend next to you has paper and pencils and crayons, and you have nothing. It kind of makes the child feel "left out" "Not good enough"
and as a preschool teacher, I see this all to often. children come in for the after school care and cry because they didn't have a pencil to write with. or a crayon to color with.
The economy is horrible right now, and I just can't run out and purchase everything all these children need, but I can at least as for help to donate to the "No child left behind" program in our area.
