THIS WISH HAS BEEN GRANTED BY RANDYAPPLE, TYVM RANDY!
Back in April, Lois Collis' cousin Brooke, who is a teenager, was
severely injured in a motor vehicle accident. In the beginning it was touch and go. Brooke broke her neck and back. She bruised her lungs, and broke her pelvis front and back, too. She had numerous injuries and was hospitalized for 2 weeks, then transferred to a rehab facility. She is now at home, but can't even see her mom, because her mom just went through surgery. At this time, Brooke is paralyzed from the waist down, but the family is hopeful that she will one day walk again.
Brooke has started to realize her limitations, and is very depressed. She is used to playing all different kinds of sports, and this is a devastating blow to what she once knew, and how she lived her life. I'd like to be able to get her both the book and DVD version of this story. We all know that books and movies made from them are often very different. I'm hopeful that she'll read the book, then watch the DVD when she needs a lift.
Here's a blurb about The Brooke Ellison Story: At age 11, Brooke Ellison was left paralyzed from the neck down after being hit by an automobile. Writing together in alternating chapters, Brooke and her mother, Jean, document the exhausting efforts and dedication that it took for Brooke to beat overwhelming physical odds and finally graduate, with honors, from Harvard University. The story begins on the day of the accident and ends triumphantly with Brooke's graduation speech from college. Brooke's upbeat account of her college experience reveals her charming and witty nature, and Jean's contribution is a testimony to the profound powers of a mother's love and unfailing dedication. Although many other biographies of quadriplegics are available, this one, written with keen intellect and an open heart, deserves attention. It is recommended for both public and school libraries seeking nonfiction that provides strong role models for adolescents. Academic libraries supporting a curriculum in the health sciences might also find this suitable. Deborah Anne Broocker, Georgia Perimeter Coll., Dunwoody (more)

Glad this wish was granted!
I am so happy for Lois and for Brooke that this wish has been granted!
This was a very thoughtful wish, Lisa.
Thanks Everyone for your support, votes, comments, etc. I've been concerned about Brooke for a while now, because she's been coping with a lot, and at a young age. On top of her injuries, her mom recently underwent a double lung transfer, and subsequently had the toes on her right foot removed due to complications from Diabetes. That's why she has been in the hospital, and because of that, Brooke had to move to her dad's house, which is another change on top of so many the family has experienced recently. I'm happy to say that this wish has been granted by a GoN member, RandyApple. Randy approached me earlier in the week with an offer to grant, but there was some confusion about email addresses, so I hadn't received the payment til just now. Meanwhile, I have already ordered the DVD and book for Brooke, as well as a copy of the DVD for Lois and Britt to watch together, before Britt goes to visit Brooke. Thanks again for all the support on this wish! Lisa
you've got my 5*. Good luck~
After your comment I checked the other wishes also. They all have multi votes on them. I removed my 1 star. My last wish had multi votes on it also. I realize we can't control who votes for us.
