Winning isn't everything, trying and being honest is. We didn't win the cash, but a very worthy cause did, I am happy. Now me and these 6 Cub Scouts will begin our local fund raising efforts and get this done. I give you my word on that.
Thank you for all your well wishes and support. To all the Firefighters and EMTs, and those who love them, My thoughts are with you, and Thanks are never ending.
Rally the troops! You should totally Win! I appreciate volunteer fire fighters... i second "accolades for a job well done". I hope you get your memorial garden.
yeah, me too. Those guys put their lives on the line each time they open those doors and roll off to a scene. And they do it for nothing. They need special recognition now, and need to be immortalized in some way once they pass. I want to talk to family members and see if they had a special saying, or a special plant or tree and try and do something that says something about their service as well as their personality. The benches I plan to build are to be made of a new material that looks like aged wood, but is actually made from recycled plastic jugs, bottles and jars. Then it is dyed grey so it looks weathered and treated to resist weather. They should last forever, and I plan to build the framework from steel, probably weld em up myself if I can get it done, otherwise I know a welder who will probably do it for free if I provide the steel already cut so he doesn't use up his gas doing the cutting.
I have major plans for this, and the Cub Scout troop my son is in will earn special awards for service to the community. We will have a ribbon cutting by the new fire Chief and a Full Honors flag raising. In my dream, it is a major event, it might be nothing to some, but it by golly means a Lot to me, and I know it will mean a lot to the family of the ones we have lost. The Fire Chief we lost to cancer is survived by a wonderful wife who is one of our top EMTs and 3 great kids. I know they miss their dad, and I hope the memorial will please them. A sanctuary where he can be fondly remembered for the hero that he was.
Winning isn't everything, trying and being honest is. Oh, by the way the picture of Taz? It is on the side of the Rescue Truck to signify the need for proper tools to do a good job with rescues. I think it's cool.
That Truck is the one with all the Jaws of Life and other tools used to rescue folks from all sorts of precarious situations. They took the top off of a pickup in about 15 seconds one day with the jaws. Now that's what I call rescue.
Winning isn't everything, trying and being honest is. I guess I need to put in more comments so people can see this one, I truly thought this idea was a great way to pay tribute to my friends, help the Cub Scout boys earn a cool bead for the project and let me be a part of our Fire Department, even though I can't be a fireman. But here it is, buried in the latter pages. Hmmm, Oh well, I suppose we will find a way to fund it anyway. Maybe a really big bake sale?
Trust this: This wish does not look like a winner this time, but this will be done. If the wish isn't granted, and there are no donations, then these 1st Grade Cub Scouts in our troop of 6 will raise the funds locally one way or another, and we will do this memorial. I WILL get the flag, and I will replace the lanyard for it and the Red White and Blue will fly at our Fire Hall. Granted wish or not, it will be done.
But thank you all for your kind words, and your support.
I may have forgotten to mention initially that the Chief who we lost to cancer late last year was also a fellow church member and personal friend of mine. That's the truth, so give me some 5s for a man who deserves a memorial more than most men I ever met.
This wish ROCKS! You have it in the bag! 5 stars from me :) My BIL is a firefighter and I tell ya, these men & women deserve this honor & respect to be remembered for all that they have done for a community! Good luck sweets!
I will be praying for you! From a fellow firefighter, I support this wish and hope that you find a way to do this.
As for the flag, you may have an all weather, LIT flag flying at all times. If they can put a light up, then there can be a flag flying at all hours.
As another comment, since you cannot be a volunteer, you could vonlunteer to take the flag up and down everyday. THat would show more commitment to the VFD and the members than some members show!!
Yeah, I planned to do the flag thing, and also sweep the floor at the firehall. I want to help, it is just I can't be in the action. My life's dream up in one long slice up my lower spine. Thanks for the vote
