Yes, I know, $5 won't buy a new spine, but neither will $5,000,000 so WTH?
I won't bore you with a long tail of why I need
a new spine, but I do, badly. Not because mine is yellow, but because it is rapidly self destructing. Thanks for reading (here is where I could put in a bunch of links to a page talking about all the things that are wrong with my spine, and why I have to walk with a walker, and if I am lucky I can get by with a cane, or if unlucky can't get up at all. But do you really want to read all that boring medical crap for each one of the disorders, not to mention the mental ones? Didn't think so)
So this is my wish, you can't grant it but if you give me a comment I will know you care and that in itself is a win because it will make me smile, and smiling is when I look the best (more teeth, less ugly face). (more)

Eat too much? You bet ad to loosen the ole belt. At my sister's house there is never a shortage of food. I mean everything you can think of to eat was there.
I ate like 19 pounds of food, I know because before we left I weighed 19 pounds more than when I got there.

I had polio of the spine when I was a month old, and for years I have had severe deteriation of the spine, muscle, nerve and bone in my lower back and left hip. when I was going into my teen years, I was told that I would be confined to a wheel chair by the time I was 50. But thank God I am still able to walk on my own as long as I do not over-do it. so I know what you are talking about to a large extent Shane.
I feel for you buddy. and I wish you well with all that is ahead of you and I hope this wish is granted too!!! lolol

I really have no idea what to say, other than you have a great sence of humour. I am useless with dealing with pain. Last week I dropped a chair on my big toe.. and I couldnt do anything (not literally.. it didnt even bruise) but I didnt move for over an hour.. it was much easier to sit and complain :P I've never had any form of back pain (lucky me!) but I have to put up with my parents complaining about it, thanks for writing about your problems, you can be sure I will be showing my mum this.. it might shut her up for a while.. tut tut she complains about everything. Anywayzzz.. im gonna shut up now.. This is the first comment I have made and I don't think I should make anymore.. Don't want to bore too many people! Silly doctors... all they hafta do to make folks walk is tell 'em they can't [6 mos wheelin, 1 1/2 years on crutches and fifteen with a cane... piss of the docs, keep movin and wish for some stylish canes :) ]
Thanks for all the kind comments. Outside of devine intervention my back will not get better, it will get worse. Doctors gave me 2 years of walking before I was in a chair, that was 2 years ago, and I proved em wrong, I still walk, slowly, and carefully, but walking beats rolling. Unfortunately there is nothing they can about the pain other than give me some very strong narcotics (no thanks) and keep me drugged up (again, no thanks) so I grit my teeth and force myself to move. I thin k the Doctors expected me to take what they said Lying down, to borrow a phrase from Bugs Bunny "He don't know me vewy well, do he?"

Ugh... when your back has problems life really sucks. I was in a bad car wreck and got bad whiplash and I couldn't sit, stand, or lie down without being in pain. Hope you feel better soon.

I wish you all the luck, my husband is living in pain my grandmother lives in pain and my father, is in enough pain but manages to get by. All because of their backs and some medical terminology I dont really know anything about, mainly because the drs say one thing for my husband and are not doing JACK about it. Hope you get some relief.

One of my sisters has suffered from chronic back pain for many years due to a combination of injuries and fibromyalga(sorry, I'm not sure of the spelling). I hope that something can be done to at least ease your pain, if not repair the damage.

Boy, do I know what you're going through. I've suffered from chronic back pain for 2 years now, and just recently had a slip and fall accident and got a nice slipped disc out of it. Chances are that I'll need surgery sometime down the road. Much luck to you!!

Can't remember where all i have made this comment, but my new Mantra as it were is this.

For this reason, I will never tell someone in pain, that my pain trumps theirs. I have no way of knowing. I know that I have a very high pain threshold, and am sure that without that safety net so to speak, I would be even more disabled than I am. Some people have a Low threshold and a bulged disk in their back just might put them in bed until somebody fixed it. It depends on the person, not just the affliction. That is what I think about when I vote. I think this site in a way asks us all to play God in a fashion, and I hate doing that, but in the end, at least 2 lucky people get a wish granted, sometimes more than 2. People do receive direct donations, on the whole, this site is one of the coolest things I have ever seen, I wish I had thought of it.

Although I can't say that I know the exact pain you are going through, I can somewhat understand. I merely sprained my back 15 years ago and now have arthritis in it that really gets me sometimes. Also, my brother fractured a couple vertabrae in his back in a motorcycle accident last year and I know how bad it still bothers him. I hope that while you can not get a new spine(although that would be pretty awesome) that the doctors will someday find a way to help rid you of the pain. Pain sucks, whether it's physical or mental. The mental stuff, I can totally relate to.
The lumbar spine is a misunderstood part of the spinal cord. I feel for you as I have Severe Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Facet Arthropathy, Progressive Degenerative Disk Disease, Paralyzed Sciatic nerve, Osteoarthritis and Chronic debilitating pain myself. Sometimes people (and some doctors) think that the only injury that causes paralysis is at the thoracic and cervical level.
Because, as you say, there is no granting of this wish, I have undertaken the cause of trying to help others with disabilities. I'm sorry that you have to endure the pains you have. As for the 'mental ones', I'm with you buddy. I never knew a back injury could cause so many other disabilities. The worst things people do is say, 'I know what will help you feel better' and 'Have you tried...?' No you don't and yes I have. :-D

Thank you, and I hope you find some relief as often as possible wherever you can find it. My main relief from pain comes only from sleep. I get an hour a night maybe, but I bet you already know how that goes.
