I debated on this one needy , greedy.
Greedy , needy and so on the personal debate went with myself. Well the 'lil devil on my left shoulder won out. :-)
I was very tossed as I can see it in both categories. So here is the reason for the wish. My husband is a trucker and has been for almost 9 years. When he was due to renew his CDL A. We were running low on money and time. We had to renew without the HazMat endorsement. As it also meant we would have to drive about 45 miles one way for him to be fingerprinted. As a requirement for Homeland Security , they require all truckers with HazMat to undergo this background check. To have a fingerprint kit done etc.etc.etc. We didn't have the money nor the time at that particular time. And still do not truthfully , the money part that is. We did not know when he renewed that he would have to make the 45 mile trip. As in the past he was able to renew the license here at our local BMV. But with stricter guidelines , they are demanding the trip to either Lafayette , Indianapolis or Fort Wayne. We are closer to Lafayette by about 20 or so minutes...
The trucking industry has taken a huge hit due to the economy , much as everything else has too. And his runs are getting shorter , paychecks smaller too. The company that he works for is a small pop and son outfit. With only 10 trucks to it's fleet. And the money just is not there. But he cannot go on to another company unless he has this HazMat endorsement on his CDL. The company he worked for prior to this one closed after having filed bankruptcy due to the economy as well. There he made a decent wage. Here at this one - not so much. So if he could get this ammended onto his license , he could attain a better job. Thus enabling him to make more weekly , monthly etc. And would allow us to restore our heat , get back up on our own 4 feet and so on.
The actual total for the endorsement/fingerprinting kit is $120. Not to mention the gas and time off of work that he would have to miss out on. But I am doubly hoping it can pay off in the end...If anyone that reads this is a trucker , or knows a trucker. Then you/they surely know how important this add on to the license can be..

But.....as a former 20 plus years as a trucker w/ 2 ex-husbands that are still truckers, I must tell you that there are a whole lot of outfits that still don't require the hazmat etc. They would like drivers to have one but a lot don't require it and they still pay really good. A Whole lot of drivers out there refuse to go through the bull required to get one now when they have had them before the bull and never committed crimes where they should now have to do the extra checks and pay for it too. Both my ex's are Veterans and had high security clearances when they were in the military, and both refuse to go through the stuff to keep a hazmat. All that the the government requires is not going to stop the bad guys if they chosse to do harm, just makes it harder on the good guys out there, but that's another story. If he wants it I hope he gets it, but to think he's limited without it, well he's just not looking in the right places. Good luck
Only due to the fact of no paid vacation means no money for a week. And when he is the only one working AND most times the checks are about $400 a week. With bills that total roughly $1400 a month. There is NO chance way to work in a week without pay on purpose. This company he makes 33 cpm and has almost 9 years driving experience. He is sooo restricted now with this company as to what he can haul. He gets passed up for a lot of loads due to not having it.
He can't haul batteries = hazmat.
Cleaning solutions = hazmat.
And so on , and his company hauls quite a bit of that. Now he is stuck to paper goods primarily and there isn't many loads , couple that without hazmat. And he's making less and less as the weeks roll on.
And simply enough , a site to wish for a wish. I did just that. With a hazmat endorsement he would be able to haul more , make more and put us in a better financial situation. What the hell could be wrong with that ?
