"Spanky" Thank you for the well wishes, but I will have to tell you that Otis is NO WHERE NEAR the point of having to be put down. He is eating and playing and even opening Christmas gifts. He brings joy to this family daily. I have consulted dachshund experts and they say if we find out what the problem is that he can live many, many more years and with quality of life. I do not feel that animals are disposable. I made a commitment to him and I plan to carry it through until the day that I DO have to make that tough decision. I hope you come back and read this and understand....

Hey Bellebear42! I will definitely go look at your dachsie. Aren't they the best? Personality PLUS! Otis has already been through so much with his back surgery, etc. He is my little survivor and I owe it to him to find out what is wrong. Just wish it wasn't so darn expensive.... :(

Thank you, Afterglow, for that info for JeannieQ, that is so sad. Every breed has its flaws. Otis's breed has the back troubles (IVDD disc disease) which Otis has already gone through which is why I think it is so unfair that he has to have these heart issues, too!
