The Best Friends Animal Society has stepped up and stepped in whenever animals have needed them.
They were there for the victims of hurricane Katrina and they have recently stepped in to take over a sanctuary in New York that was in desperate need. This organization goes above and beyond for animals and seemingly doesn't turn them away. To read all about them: [ link ]

I have been to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and cannot recommend the work they do highly enough. In fact, my son and I took volunteer vacation there!! yes, you can come and stay and take care of the animals as a volunteer, and I did it with my son when he was about 12. It was one of the most rewarding holidays of our lives. I am now on the board of one of the first animal rights groups in the country of Nepal, where I live. This is a wonderful wish.
You got my 5 on this one.I have always wanted to open a rescue shelter for all animals, but I dont have room right now.Maybe one day though.I rescued my kitty Moses.He wasnt in a shelter, I found him in our driveway he was hurt by something and was tore up pretty bad.I brought him in,doctored him up and now he is a member of the family. Sounds like a great organization. I do feline rescue and I know what kind of money trap it can be with all the vet bills and everything else.
