As some of you already know, 9 years ago my husband was in a horrible car crash.
He was hit head on by a drunk driver in a stolen truck. The driver of the truck that hit his SUV was never found. It is amazing to me that he or she just walked away from an accident that left my husband unconcious and bleeding all over. My husband's Toyota Forerunner was hit so hard it spun several times and the engine block was split in half. The frame actually broke in half...anyone who knows about cars would know that that takes a tremendous amount of impact to cause that to happen. My husband was unconcious for almost a day and had some swelling and bruising of his brain along with other injuries. At the time he was treated at a second rate hospital (people jokingly call it ST. Victims) and was never given the proper tests to diagnose his injuries properly. We already know he has 4 herniated discs in his lumbar spine and some bone fragments pushing into his spinal canal...the sad thing is he is not able to have surgery due to his young age. No doctor will touch him because he is 28 years old and there is a very real danger that he could be paralyzed. What is even sadder is the fact that he has never received a settlement or any money to help pay his medical costs. He has to suffer everyday because of some jerk that was never found. Recently he has begun to have tremors, twitches and severe muscle spasms that just paralyze him with pain...along with some hearing and vision problems that come and go as well. Sometimes he loses his hearing for hours at a time. Not a good thing when you manage a retail store where public conversation is essential. His neurologist says that she feels that he may have a neck and/or brain condition or injury that has gone undiagnosed. We are so burdened with medical bills already that my husband does not want to add more bills to the pile. We will find a way to get the tests done eventually but this wish would help to get them done much sooner. We have 3 children that he feels come before himself. He is a wonderful father and absolutely awesome husband who thinks only of others. I want to be able to think of him this time. I wish for the amount of coinsurance on the MRI tests that he needs. About $200 for each scan that he needs. I would just like him to get the tests he needs without worrying about how we are going to pay for it. (more)

My husband has tried the freemedicine foundation and had no luck. He has prescription coverage on his insurance so they said there was not much if anything they can do. Most of what he needs is not meds but tests and surgery. He quit taking the pain meds a while ago saying that they made him feel like a crazy drug addict. He just trudges through the pain instead.

They are a patient advocacy group that will take your basic information and try to connect to you programs that will help you afford the medical care you need EVEN if you already have insurance and a good income. Give them a try. I am not sure what the rules are with a car accident but it can't hurt to ask them. Good luck :)

His car insurance helped with the initial medical costs 9 years ago, but as most people know insurance only covers a certain amount ($5000 on his ins.) and that runs out very quickly. He received enough money to pay off his undrivable suv, but that was it. And there wasnt uninsured motorist coverage readily available at that time. unfortunately we are on our own.

Your vehicle insurance should be helping him out wiht the medical cost since he cant recover any damages from the person who hit him. I hope he can get relief soon.
