My companion cat, Bandit, has been diabetic for over two years. I learned, should he get sick, it can be serious. On March 8th, he began throwing up and couldn't keep anything down - so I rushed him to the Pet Emergency Hospital. They did tests; an IV; meds; etc. I brought him home the following afternoon. Later it started again; then he quit eating & drinking; continued to throw up until it was just foam ~ so per my Vet, again rushed him back to the Hosp.
During the first trip, I had called the local Pet Assistance, and got a $75 donation from United Animal Nations to the Hosp.; and a website to contact. I also told the Pet Hosp. I was on Disability, and didn't know how I would pay the bill. [They, in addition to my Vet, kept telling me to apply for Care Credit - this too - a long story, 'but', the -ultimate mess- I am in; with HORRENDOUS interest & payments !!!]
In my state of panic and frenzy and an anxiety attack or two - I later, stupidly, applied for Care Credit, AFTER, having written numerous detailed emails to a pet foundation, the addy I got through Pet Assistance.
Here is the breakdown of the bill -after- the $75 donation: $3,346 [minus a one time only grant of $500 from AAHA Helping Pets Fund; minus $18, rtn'd 6 cans of Rx cat food; minus $10 from donation of 1st time for this wish] = $2,818.00.
"I" even ended up in the E.R. for 18 hrs. during all of this !!!
Please help me !!! I'm on SSI, and all the other pet foundations I have contacted do not donate "after the fact" -or- "once treatment has begun" !!! [I don't know how they expect you to know about them, let alone go through all the processes -before- your pet gets -any- treatment, when they are on the brink of death !!!]
Bandit is ALL I have left; and he is such a SWEET BOY !!! He helps with my B.P.; the depression times from my severe pain & illnesses. We play; he comes when I whistle; he knows when I'm extra sick; he keeps me on my toes; & is great company !!! Please...Help me with this enormous bill !!!

Good luck with your wish. I would like to thank you for the links, and the info for hospice. Yes, hospice is involved. They tried getting involved a few months ago, but at that time my mother refused them because she didnt like the name. We finally convinced her that if hospice came in, that didnt mean she would die tomorrow. Hospice actually came to the house yesterday, and did all of her intake paperwork. The only problem Im running into with the links, is that the wish has to be for something she wants to do. They dont provide cash, which means I would not be able to use it twords the wedding. Thats really the only thing she wants is to see us get married. She asks me everyday if the wedding is still set for Sept. Of course its hard to get her to believe that we still have some time since she insists it already Aug. Thankyou very much for the info, and good luck with your wish. My animals are my life too.

Being an animal lover and knowing what it is like to face unbelievable animal vet bills - I cant help but give you my 5. A couple years ago my dog Bob had a ruptured disc. We took him to the emergency vet who after keeping him for a couple days had us transfer him to a specialist who wouldnt even look at him with out $2000 down. Of course my husband and I had to give the emergency vet and the specialists checks for money we didnt have in our account. I then ran out and took a high interest loan out for the money. It took me 2 years to pay the loan off, but I would do it again in a minute if I needed to.

You must live in a wonderful place that they even allowed you to run up a bill like that. I am also on SSDI and have a diabetic cat. He went into a coma while I was off doing a Hep C educational event and the Emergency vet bill came to $2500 over the next week. I had to beg, borrow, and practically steal before they would release him to me. They don't allow anyone to make payments. Now that he is *under control* I only have the expense of insulin and needles but since I have my own meds because of my Hep C and emphysema it can be very hard. You are so right about the importance of our animals. Studies have shown that they lower stress, blood pressure, and just generally give us a better outlook on life. Good luck! All other Pet Foundations; that help with cats; Do Not Donate -after the fact-; OR; --once treatment has begun- !!! He was practically on death's door, and not knowing what was wrong was making it impossible to treat; particularly with his diabetes !!! I would have totally lost it if I let him die & there was something that could be done !!! I cried more that week than I had in quite a while !!! So, I am researching everything 'I' can think of to try and help with this bill !!!
As far as insulin & needles ~ I am in the process of applying to [ link ] , for their Diabetes Program. You might want to do that too !!! All this time, it has been going on my credit card, along with -my- medicines that aren't covered !!!

I have 2 diabetic cats. Well, one is on holiday, so I know what you are going through.
Have you been to the [ link ] website? That place got me through many a sleepless night. I know it's expensive to take care of them when they are sick but you'll find a way!
Stop feeding Bandit that prescription food and get him on Fancy Feast. I'm convinced that diabetes in cats is caused by diet and feeding them dry food.

I realize RHF only starts off with $500 ~ However, I have seen members of the Community, and others, rally with Donations - or Donations for a particular wish !!! I am praying very hard for that as well !!!
However, to win the $500 would be more of help than I could even really put into words right now !!!

I haven't been -getting by- on SSI at all. I have had to rely on help from the Church for food; and the use of my Credit Cards for -mere essentials- [toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, medicines that are not covered, insurance, etc.] - it's turned into a mess !!! And I am in desperate need of the Community's help !!! Thank you so much for your support & God bless !!!

Also, have you checked into pet insurance? I know that there are a few that will cover previous medical conditions. There's one through the ASPCA and VPI.

I obviously gave you 5 stars for Bandit. People don't take animals serious enough. Don't realize they are living and breathing just like us and that as humans it is our responsibility to care for them. Pets are part of our family and Bandit deserves the sme medical treatment that we all do.
I agree, you MUST. You will get my 5 each and every time you run this wish. I've been there, and totally understand. Our furbabies need care and we will go into debt to get them that care. It is not for someone to judge what they don't understand. If you don't want her to get this wish, please just pass it by and don't vote.
