In 2003, I was on top of the world.
I had just married the love of my life AND gotten my first full-time salaried job as a graphic designer. Chrismas 2003 we decided that in the next year we would start our family together. Everything was going great....until I got very, very sick. Then everything went to sh*t.
In January 2004 we found a large growth behind my heart that was slowly crushing my windpipe. It turned out to be a very aggressive Cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Aggressive Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I had to start chemotherapy immediately, but my medical benefits hadn't even kicked in yet (I hadn't been full-time for three months).
I did a year of chemotherapy and radiation, only taking four months off (my insurance company denied me Long-Term benefits so I only got 16 weeks of Short-Term Disability). I was officially in Remission as of January 2005 and I tried to get my life back on track...
Then my marriage fell apart. I'm not going to try to villify my ex here, but only after moving into a new home and buying a dog did she decide that maybe she wasn't interested in being my wife any more. From there it was a painful chain of events involving me living in my friend's basement for six weeks while she had guys from Detrioit that she met on the Internet come to stay with her. (I'm not judging or implying anything, these are just the facts)
She finally brought the axe down on our relationship...on my birthday of all days! She moved out, left her cat, and I haven't seen her since. I want to get a divorce, but they cost like $800 that I don't have right now. I could save the money, but I just want her out of my life forever, and I want her out NOW!
I'm happy and healthy, but it would really be nice to not have to admit to people that I was still married to someone that treated me so poorly. (more)

Congratulations! You're healthy, and you got her cat!! That sounds like WIN-WIN to me - I'd rather be with a kitty than with someone who'd treat someone so poorly :). Hope you get your wish AND your divorce!
