Funds for my cancer clinical trial expenses
I have one of those lovely incurable cancers.
Cut it out, back it comes again. There's only so much cutting you can do before it goes to your liver, and your lymph nodes. So, after almost 13 years, that's where we are. There are a few things that CAN be done to help.
There's a protocol being done in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It costs $80,000, plus the hospital stay (another $9,000-12,000) the trip there, and 4 to 6 weeks expenses to stay there while they see if it worked...average cost to people that have done it is around $110,000. There's another one in Berne, Switzerland. Same sort of deal, average cost to those that have done it, closer to $150,00. Obviously, FAR out of my reach.
There is a recently opened third alternative. It is in Houston. It's at an outpatient facility, because the therapeutic radioactive agent they use doesn't damage the liver (Basel) or kidneys (Rotterdam). It's a 3 week stay, no hospital involved. Most people stay in an extended stay motel nearby and the expenses are for lodgings and food, plus the considerable (testing $8,000, infusion $25,000) medical expense. Well, this Stage II clinical trial--something Medicare NEVER covers is clinical trials--works well enough that Medicare will cover it at 80%. I have Medicaid that will pay the other 20%.
I can 'borrow' a place to stay, either 30 miles away at my foster son's or possibly 10 miles away at a friend's "in town apartment" for when she's at the cancer hospital. I need funds for food, gasoline and to pay the radiation safety fees to 'clear' the place I stay once I get to go home. I'll be unsafe for others to be within 6 feet of for a few days, and unsafe around babies, small animals and pregnant women for about 10 days. It's a chance to 'buy' a few years, and it can be repeated, up to three infusions. It'll lessen my dependence on the injections I currently get. Medicare will save money on that and I will have some time where I feel better!
So, RHF, I am starting now so that by January, I can have some money saved, and since I won't win, I can at least say I tried to get some RHF help. It's also a way to get more wishes done, and that's good too! (Why naughty? I'll die with or without it, just not as soon.) (more)

Heres my 5 Dee. Thanks for being the type of person that you are.
You said you needed money for transportation to doctors,etc. The government pays for transportation if you are really a sick person. That is why you see those vans that pick up paitents to and from the hospital and doctor's offices. Check into that....call any hospital and they will be able to direct you. You asked for money for transportation. that is plan wrong!!!!!
And you're being extremely negative for someone who obviously NEEDS the information I tried to share with you. Don't be that way, it makes you look bad.
The government will pay for transportation to doctor's appointments.
Texas Medicaid DOES NOT provide equal services for Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries. Just as I don't know Florida Medicaid, YOU don't know Texas Medicaid. I DO however, know FEDERAL Medicare, and it's 80% payment. Your hate is showing. You need help.

I will keep you in my prayers. My son has Leukemia, and I understand all the stresses of this sort of illness. I have seen many miracles happer in the way of protocols. I truly hope and pray that you get what you need. Also, could you please take a look at my wish.

This is a forgiving bunch, but try to fix thinks, OK? And think about limiting the number of wishes to keep from diluting your vote. One nice, one naughty and maybe a 'dollar wish' per week is easier for voters to deal with, and they don't think they've seet it before.

Dee I know I commented before but i really wanted to say that you are a wonderful person and I really admire you. Your a very kind woman and I hope that someday I may be a little more like you. I wish I could take all the pain your going through away. I pray for you and others every night because alot of you have touched my heart. Don't give up Dee! Fight along side me.
