A few months of cancer treatment for my dad, on-the-house!
Because no one -- especially not my dad -- should have to worry about whether they can afford to keep taking treatment which is intended to keep them as healthy as possible for however much time they have left. My dad, who is about to turn 60, is an inspiration to me, to our family, to his friends & community. Before his retirement a few years back, my dad was an amazing high-school teacher for 30 years and a regularly coached basketball & soccer. He always loved (and still does, as much as he can) being active... almost every day he'd be out running or playing tennis, doing repairs on the house or taking care of the lawn & flower gardens. By his example, he's taught me & my two siblings SO much about what it means to be a good human being. He took the role of providing for his family very seriously and instilled so many good values in each of his children. He & my mom have always been the strong ones for us all, and now, in my own way, I'm trying to be there for them while they face one of the most trying times a couple couple can experience. I can't afford to cover the costs of my dad chemo treatments... if I could, I would in a heart-beat! But what I can do is reach out to others, like you, in the hopes that together we can help ease the financial burden that often comes with cancer. My dad is an incredible, incredible father, husband, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbour, and human being. He brings SO much into the lives of others... and I hope that by writing this, I can give some of that back to him! |
