I am starting a charitable scholarship. I need $25 for the filing fees to file the paperwork to get the ball rolling.

This scholarship will be for law students who are going into public interest law. It will pay for a bar review course. Public Interest law students have not been making thousands of dollars in their summer jobs. Yet, they have to take a bar review course if they want to pass the bar exam. If you don't pass the bar, you don't get to practice law. So, you have to take the bar review course. Which costs around $2500. My scholarship will help defray (if not pay in full) that expense at least.

Her hair was up in a ponytail
Her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
And she couldn't wait to go.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
For everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
Anxious in their seats.

One by one the teacher called,
A student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
As seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
Every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
For a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy at?"
She heard a boy call out.
"She probably doesn't have one,"
Another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
She heard a daddy say,
"Looks like another deadbeat dad,
Too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,
As she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
Who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,
Slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
Came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,
Because he lives so far away.
But I know he wish's he could be,
Since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
And how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
He taught me to ride my bike.

And died just this past month
When Iraqis hit his convoy
And hurt us all so much.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
It's like he never went away.
And then she closed her eyes,
And saw him there that day.

And to her mother's amazement,
She witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
All starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
Who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
They saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"
To the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
Of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
For each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
Was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
By the love of her shining bright star.

Funds for my cancer clinical trial expenses

I have one of those lovely incurable cancers. Cut it out, back it comes again. There's only so much cutting you can do before it goes to your liver, and your lymph nodes. So, after almost 13 years, that's where we are. There are a few things that CAN be done to help.

There's a protocol being done in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It costs $80,000, plus the hospital stay (another $9,000-12,000) the trip there, and 4 to 6 weeks expenses to stay there while they see if it worked...average cost to people that have done it is around $110,000. There's another one in Berne, Switzerland. Same sort of deal, average cost to those that have done it, closer to $150,00. Obviously, FAR out of my reach.

There is a recently opened third alternative. It is in Houston. It's at an outpatient facility, because the therapeutic radioactive agent they use doesn't damage the liver (Basel) or kidneys (Rotterdam). It's a 3 week stay, no hospital involved. Most people stay in an extended stay motel nearby and the expenses are for lodgings and food, plus the considerable (testing $8,000, infusion $25,000) medical expense. Well, this Stage II clinical trial--something Medicare NEVER covers is clinical trials--works well enough that Medicare will cover it at 80%. I have Medicaid that will pay the other 20%.

I can 'borrow' a place to stay, either 30 miles away at my foster son's or possibly 10 miles away at a friend's "in town apartment" for when she's at the cancer hospital. I need funds for food, gasoline and to pay the radiation safety fees to 'clear' the place I stay once I get to go home. I'll be unsafe for others to be within 6 feet of for a few days, and unsafe around babies, small animals and pregnant women for about 10 days. It's a chance to 'buy' a few years, and it can be repeated, up to three infusions. It'll lessen my dependence on the injections I currently get. Medicare will save money on that and I will have some time where I feel better!

So, RHF, I am starting now so that by January, I can have some money saved, and since I won't win, I can at least say I tried to get some RHF help. It's also a way to get more wishes done, and that's good too! (Why naughty? I'll die with or without it, just not as soon.) (more)

I would like to take the two abused girls I help out every month, Jeanna and Veronica, and to take my mother with us as well. She just had her one impacted wisdom tooth taken out this past Monday and now that entire side of her face is very swollen and black and blue from the hospital treating everyone like a number and cattle instead of a person.
I haven't been here for awhile with everything going on.... don't worry, won't go into details to bore everyone. Just thinking a nice day would do the trick to cheer everyone up....myself, my mother (after tooth and Spook), and the girls (they've been staying with me lately). OK, I will go into a little detail. Cindy, the girl's mother, was put in the hospital for her asthma, while there the doctors found a tumor on her lung, gratefully (thankfully) it wasn't cancerous but it still sent the girls into major shock and they really haven't gotten over it yet, even though it's safe.

6th Try For a Day at The Lake for Our Two Kids!!!!!Please!

Hello, I would like to thank those who have voted on our last wishes. I'm putting our wish up again today, for our two awesome kids, our son just turned 12 and our daugther is 15 and a 1/2. As many of you know my husband Tom has cancer and I have Lupus. Our kids have been through so much as a result of our illnesses and other unfournate thing that have happend to us over the last few years. Our kids never ask for much, all they want is for there wonderful dad and I to feel better and not have to worry about so much. (I really wish each and everyone of you could meet our kids.) SO... I want to do something for them, while they are on summer break, they deserve to do something special, I would like to take them to the Lake Erie Islands, including Port Clinton Ohio and Put in Bay Ohio. There is a "African Sarfari" there that allows you to drive your car through while the animals come to your window to eat. I know that they would love this, especially our 12 year old son. The admission is 16.95 a person. I am changing the amount asked for, from $200.00 to $100.00 beause the wish award amount has changed. We would like to stop off at put in bay ohio (a island) and this would include Ferry tickets to and from the island, golf cart and wheele chair rental, and then gas money and maybe dinner on the way home. You can look at both of the places mentioned above, they have websites, and this will verify the amounts I stated.

I hope that you will vote for our wish and help me give my wonderful kids a day of fun and relaxation. I also know that it wouild be a good thing for my husband, it would help him relax and keep his mind off of things too.

I had a Christian mentor after my heart attack - she was from Georgia and she was a peach of a person. Her name was Mary Eva Flanders and she was a retired Social worker who specialized in children. God took her home a little more than a year after she introduced herself to me and started mentoring me back to Christ. She gave to every cause at church even when it meant she was doing without. Her third bout of cancer took her home to God's throne. In her picture you will notice a picture inside the right lenses of her glasses - she had cataracts in that eye but the doctors wouldn't do the surgery because the the tumor that was gradually collapsing her bronchial tubes made her a surgery risk even for something as relatively simple as cataracts. In the end, she had just been released from the hospital to her home and her nurse had just left when the tumor caused a rupture and she drowned in her own blood holding the Bible in one hand and the phone in her other hand. Even though I had only known her for slightly over a year I was asked to do her eulogy at the memorial service as her body was sent back to Georgia for a family plot burial. The only thing I have ever had to do that was harder was doing the eulogy for my late Nana.

I make this wish so I can let her be known to others for the kind and generous woman that she was. If I am blessed to win, the money will be sent to others especially those who need a birthday gift for a child or other necesities for a child or children. This is what Mary Eva would want me to do.

I will not be vote trading - this wish will stand on its own as this woman was very important to me and I will not tarnish her memory with playing games with the wish. It stands on its own merits - I have changed it to a nice wish due to the suggestions of some of the RHF members even tho it is not a need but a wanting to tell others about her discipleship to others. A monument for my son , I hate Cancer..Life is not the same.

My son is in the arms of an angel, very missed!! At the age of 6. Born July 17 1999 - Angel day,July 21 2005. He is my middle child. I am in need of a monument for his plot. I have not been able to afford to buy one. . My fiancee works his butt off just to make ends meet, we have two other children whom we work to buy meals and such for.
WE are struggling day after day, very hard on us. I don't know if my grief will get any easier, as my little boy was my pride and joy, my best friend. He was always at my side, now i am lost. Struggling. I appreciate if we can get any help at all. I have tried raising donations, but my luck was not that great. My brother collected things for a yard sale, but that did not go over too well. My mom called the local news, etc and the answer we got for help was, they could only help us IF my son was still here and sick. SAD, breaks me to pieces.
My son was diagnosed with Leukemia, then in remission early. He then had a fever and admitted, the doc said possible pnemonia, the fever went away and doc said he could finally go home. Well that night at the hospital, my son hemmoraged in front of me, wide awake, so of course i live with such visions watching him, was devastating and still is.. Turned out, he had no pnemonia, he had a bug/infection in his left lung and that if they caught it early, my son would have been on meds and cured.. I am so angry, i live with their mistake...
I appreciate any help, even small amounts. If i win my wish and it makes it easier, my wish amount can be sent to my sons resting place, as i have an account set up for donations through them. I just do not know what to do anymore..Between the monument and getting by day by day financially, and most importantly missing my son, it is very tough.

My mom has helped me so much over the years when I needed it most. I want to give back.

She is a very humble person, but she recently got divorced from a 15 year marriage and has mentally lost it. The same time, her car blows up and she loses her job over not being able to get to work. My 18 year old brother also lives with her and his car is the only one they share. She hates life, and wonders why this would happen to her all at once. She is in a very depressive state right now and she is pawning off her rings and stuff for money to keep the electricity in her house on. I have brought her over food and have spared gas money so she can get her job back, but we are living paycheck to paycheck ourselves and I wish I could help more to help her get back on her feet. I just wanna see her happy again.

My Mum and I are stuck in a mentally and physically stressful environment because of the man she's married to and the fact we aren't economically independent. He's mean, degrading and manipulative, psychologically abusive, and even though Mum suffers rheumatism and Morbus Chron's disease, he does nothing around the house but watch TV all day. He's perfectly healthy, and for some reason he's managed to get welfare. Why? Because he's too lazy to get off his butt and get a job. Still, he expects us to do all the work around the house. She cooks for him, she cleans and irons and all the little things expected of her. In the thirteen years they've been married, he's completely isolated and alienated her from the outside world, from family and friends. It's gone so far we're afraid to bring people over out of fear of what he might say, to them, about them, about our so-called family, anything.

And in spite of her being very sick, she got herself a job so maybe she can pay off her mortgages and have a more financially stable economy. At this rate, we won't have paid off the biggest debt in four years.

Mum wants to be an independent woman, at least for the time she's got left. She'll be sixty years old next January, and like I said, she's very sick. I want to help her, but without a job of my own, we're in a tight spot. Between a rock and a hard place. Call it what you want to.

We need out. In fact, we needed out years ago. We want him out, but there's no way we could stay in our house on our budget, and there's no way we're getting another loan. We've lived in the same house since I was eight months old, and Mum does not want to leave. She wants to grow old in her home, without the stress of living with a man who views her as a little more than servant and a surrogate mother.
