Yarn to make a heavy blanket, so that I can sleep

I have been having trouble sleeping lately, and part of the reason is that my blankets are not heavy enough.

When I was a kid I had a heavy quilt from my grandmother and I remember how it felt to have that dropped over me and pressing down on me while I slept. Since then, there have been a few times that I have had the chance to sleep places where I have had access to a really heavy blanket or blankets and those nights I have slept very well.

I mentioned this once to my son's occupational therapist and she told me that this is not surprising as many autistic people need the pressure from heavy blankets in order to sleep. In fact, she will often prescribe weighted blankets to autistic people who have sleep issues. These weighted blankets are usually quite expensive (in the range of $220 or more for a queen sized one) [ link ]

I recently finished making and shipping out a queen sized knit blanket to a friend of mine. It's finished weight was just under 12 lbs. This is less than a prescription weighted blanket would be but it was heavy enough that working on it and having it sit in my lap while I finished it was very very relaxing. I think that if I were able to make myself one, it would help me be able to sleep much better. (photo is not the blanket that I made, I did not take a picture of that one)

This $100 would cover more than half of the costs of making a blanket like the one I made for my friend, for myself, as long as I found a great deal on yarn like I did the last time. I am looking forward to finally being able to get a good night's sleep. (more)

Let's Help Another Grammy to Ride the Bus

This is my second try to run this wish for my friend Flourmom. One of the less known members she, she is kind and generous with her time and energy to helping others.

Flourmom is called Grammy by her grandchildren. She has two who live here in town, and another four living about 5 hours away, who she sees once or twice a year. But her youngest daughter is living a two day bus trip away, and they have not seen each other for a very long time. Her daughter now has a little girl who Flourmom has never met.
She is saving to go see her daughter and meet baby Faith for the first time, hopefully in January. At that time Faith will be 18 months old.

Bus fare will be about $350, so the $100, if I win, will be a very big help to her.
She will not be flying, because to fly from here to there is over $1000!

Jadetopp to get Assistance with her Surgery

This is the 12th try for the life saving surgery she needs.
(Jadetopp tried 7 times and this is my 5th time)

Jadetopp needs a breast reduction ASAP. She is on continual oxygen due to breathing problems caused by how heavy her chest is. She has continual back pain and many other medical problems.

This is a quote from Jadetopp:
"I have Avascular Necrosis all through my body. For those who are not medically minded, this means that my bones are not getting enough blood and are dying. My spine is heavily damaged from the necrosis and I have an extremely large chest. I am a 34 DDDD. I have carried these around for most of my life, I was large chested from puberty on. Then after childbirth, they just got bigger. Because of their size I am in continual back pain. I realize that a reduction will not fix the damage that has already been done, but it will prevent anymore from occurring. If I don't have the reduction, my spine will collapse.
At that point I would become a quad and I am already dealing with enough disability to have to add that too it."

The surgery will cost more than $100 and there has already been a generous $100 donation made to her. She has found a surgeon who will take $500 up front (yes they require money first) and bill for the rest so $100 will get her a lot closer. (more)

My daughter and I made a decision this week to let her quit school they have been failing her for the last two semesters even though she is supposed to have an IEP which I was left out of this time. I give up she is 17 and soon to be 18 she would quit anyway. After us spending time at the hospital with my grandbaby and her missing school her teacher told her she was gonna fail even if she made up the work because that time is not excused. Well I am sorry but when a child is in ICU the whole family is involved. Did they want me to leave her with her brother who is 20 and they fight constantly.

My wish is for this CD to help her get the GED or the online version both costs the same. We dont have to have this because we can have free classes here. I just feel she would have a better time on the computer. She enjoys learning on the computer. She learns better on her own than in classes anyway.

Please vote for my daughter to get this to go on with her life. She was already held back last year and then again. I know i dont want to be 18 and a freshmen. She is really smart they just dont challenge her enough. She missed school last semester due to illnesses and she had excused absenses and she still failed.

My wish is in the naughty category because it is a WANT not a NEED. I saw the Ferst Family put up a wish two weeks ago for an electric skillet and I got to thinking that I always wanted one myself. So when she didn?t win, I decided to wish for both of us. If I win, I will send half the money to the Ferst Family and both of us will have our dream of having an electric skillet. Summer fun

Summer is coming, and its time to begin registering for camp. Gregory will ( hopefully) be going to 4-H camp, a 6 day sleep away camp where he can participate in all kinds of fun activities such archery, canoeing, horseback riding and hiking. The cost is $340. The elder girls Cher and Audrey will be attending cherleading camp, a daycamp, in which they will practice gymnastics, routines, and learn about the importance of team work. Chers tuition fee is $50, and Audreys is $40. We love summer camp, and regular camping. It helps to make lifelong friends, build independance and self confidence. The children always have a wonderful time. With 3 children attending camp I could really use some help towards the cost of tuition fees. I have known him for almost a year now and don't actually need to learn how to love him
because I already do. I just want to learn more about what makes him so unique and to learn how to best interact with him in ways that help us both to be comfortable.

I also would like a book or two for him. He has wondered for years why he is so "different" from others and I want him to be able to have something to read to help him learn that his being different is what makes him unique and wonderful, that it is not something he should feel bad about or ashamed of.
