Dinner out with friends

Yarn to make a heavy blanket, so that I can sleep

I have been having trouble sleeping lately, and part of the reason is that my blankets are not heavy enough.

When I was a kid I had a heavy quilt from my grandmother and I remember how it felt to have that dropped over me and pressing down on me while I slept. Since then, there have been a few times that I have had the chance to sleep places where I have had access to a really heavy blanket or blankets and those nights I have slept very well.

I mentioned this once to my son's occupational therapist and she told me that this is not surprising as many autistic people need the pressure from heavy blankets in order to sleep. In fact, she will often prescribe weighted blankets to autistic people who have sleep issues. These weighted blankets are usually quite expensive (in the range of $220 or more for a queen sized one) [ link ]

I recently finished making and shipping out a queen sized knit blanket to a friend of mine. It's finished weight was just under 12 lbs. This is less than a prescription weighted blanket would be but it was heavy enough that working on it and having it sit in my lap while I finished it was very very relaxing. I think that if I were able to make myself one, it would help me be able to sleep much better. (photo is not the blanket that I made, I did not take a picture of that one)

This $100 would cover more than half of the costs of making a blanket like the one I made for my friend, for myself, as long as I found a great deal on yarn like I did the last time. I am looking forward to finally being able to get a good night's sleep. (more)

The records, stored on primative Digital Video Discs, are being held by a group of Ferengi calling themselves Classic Box Sets.com. Starfleet Intelligence has managed to provide us with the location of the record discs, but unfortunately these Ferengi will accept nothing less than 100 bars of gold pressed latinum in compesation. Despite the strategic information on the discs being over 40 years out of date, it remains a national treasure of the Federation, and must be recovered. I can only hope that our allies will arrive to aid in the swift completion of our mission.

We are continuing to search the Sherwood sector for the Latinum we need to pay the Ferengi, who are holding the record files. Without the original record discs, the later volume that we've recovered is difficult to comprehend. We need to know the history of the Enterprise, before we can see how they completed their 5 year mission.
Unfortunately, the navigational computer has been malfunctioning, and we cannot locate the stars in this sector, and therefore we are unablto plot a viable course for our search. I've sent a distress call out to any friendly vessel in the region, but the closest help is still a day away.
One way or another, the Federation needs to re-acquire this piece of its history.

As many are aware, I recently asked my lady friend to be my wife. For Valentine's Day, part of what I picked up was a bridal magazine, and a wedding planner. Now they have been very helpful in terms of ideas, and it would be a big help to have more to work from.
That first magazine already helped us pick out our colour choices, Ellen knows the style of dress that she wants, and a flower crown to go with it, we're seeing fun decore ideas that we can throw together ourselves for low prices. As I said, it has been very helpful.

We all know how quickly prices can add up, and let's face it, wedding costs get out of control easily enough without adding magazines to them. This wish would allow me to pick up a couple more magazines to look through with my fiancee, to give us ideas for table arrangements, what sort of flowers we'd like, clothing, and let's face it, probably a great many things I wouldn't have thought of.

I have a confession to make...I'm a crepe fanatic! I love making (and eating) crepes :). I want a really good pan to make my crepes in, and a new crepe recipe book, as well as a crepe spreader. I don't need these things, I WANT them...badly!!

The pan I've been using to make my crepes in SUCKS! It has a "non-stick" coating, which is a strange term for it, since everything under the sun sticks to it. I found a very nice heavy-duty smooth pan that's designed specifically for making crepes, and I'm salivating over it. I want to get the pan, the recipe book and spreader, then I want to make some crepes I can be proud to serve!

A PUR Filter & Some Tupperware (Hurricane Ike Related)

I stayed in my home during Hurricane Ike, but evacuated after, due to no utilities, and no groceries/gas in the region following the storm. People were acting really crazy after the storm, driving up on curbs, sidewalks, on medians, and cutting people off, driving right through the flashing red lights, etc. The majority of the traffic signals in my area are still not working, over 2.5 weeks after Ike hit. 11% still do not have utilities. Trash has not been collected in over 3 weeks, and debris has not been picked up either. My bedroom ceiling leaked all over the bedroom floor and ruined my rugs. I haven't even had the time or energy yet to move furniture to check for mold. Other than that and the problems with the fridge/freezer, I mostly had limbs/leaves all over the place, and the gate next to mine, as well as the fence between this place and the neighbor's house are down. I did lose some of my aquarium fish, but 2 were still alive, over 2 weeks after the hurricane hit, which is a miracle. The kitties and I are fine, other than Asthma/Sinus flareups due to having to use bleach to clean the fridge/freezer. Thankfully, Dee Dee (a member here) hooked me up with a friend of hers, so we had a safe place to stay while we were evacuated.

I was out of town for two weeks, while the utilities were off. When I returned this past weekend, after power had been restored, everything in my fridge/freezer was totally ruined. The power had been off for 16 days. The seals on the fridge/freezer are broken, and everything in there was filled with flies, maggots, and black mold, including my Brita Water Pitcher.

I would like to be able to replace the Brita Pitcher with a PUR water faucet filter, get a few extra screen filters for it, and buy some Tupperware containers to replace the ones I had to throw out. Because I was out of work for 2.5 weeks due to Ike, I currently have no income, and can't afford to replace them myself.

I am no longer asking for help with my own son's Christmas as it is our saviours birth we celebrate. The Circumstances when I adopted these families were different when I first volunteered to do it.

In October, I adopted 2 families children for Christmas. I receive 63.00 a month in S.S.I. payments that I plan to use for these kids. That makes a little over $10.00 to give to each these kids. I had hoped to send them enough for dinner and some cloths too. To win anything else would be a big help.

Here is my explanation:
Charles my husband is a school custodian. He was working for a school district that was 40 miles from home. At one point we were almost paying $300.00 per month for gasoline. We had always hoped for him to get on with a school district in our area. BUT the district in our area have a strange policy that says you have to already be working within the district to be concidered for a position. Which means you have to be hired on as a substitute. Which means unsure hours, ungaranteed work availiblity and no benefits. Before really waying the pro's and con's of taking this gamble of Charles working as a substitute we didn't find out how much the pay was, we assumed since Charles has 8 years of experience that he would get paid the same, not so. He took a 5.60 pay cut by taking the substituting possition. Currently our living expenses greatly exceed our income. We have not been able to make the car insurance payments this month.

Imagine being someone with lots of energy and love to offer - a great young guy- who has to spend the first 24 years of his life in a room the size of your bathtub with limited opportunity to come out and virtually nothing for entertaiment. Add to that a diet consisting only of bread and water.

That is the analogy that closest illustrates the way Carol's new boyfriend has lived his life. No, he was not in prison, prisoners are treated more humanely than Louie has been. I was responsible for Carol and Louie meeting and was there to witness "love at first sight". Yes, it does exist! I saw it with my own experienced eyes. They have been together for a month now and are doing fantastic EXCEPT for the fact that Louie still has a problem that is preventing their total happiness.

Louie is a 24 year old Yellow Nape Amazon parrot. He has been through at least 3 prior owners and lived in some rotten conditions. One of the things that happened to him was being forced to live in a cage that was SO tiny he was unable to anything but turn around. Some of his feathers have become deformed or damaged from constant contact with the cage bars. I have given her a slightly larger OLD cage of mine but it is only a temporary fix since it is still not appropriately sized for Louie.
For just a little over $100 Carol and I can go to as local bird fair in June and get Louie a cage that will be perfect. It will be roomy enough for toys and plenty of perches and will even have a playstand on top where he can be outside his cage when Carol is home.

Carol has done so much giving of her self and her time and resources here at GON and now she has given her heart to this bird. Thay should have at least another 50 years to spend together. Will you help me return some of the love she has given to all of us by helping Louie get a new cage? (more)
