The Star Trek Contest has been loads of fun. I've really enjoyed seeing all of the different wishes, and the ways people have promoted them. I have to say, the creativity is starting to come back into the site! At the same time, this contest has made me want to go for a little something for myself.
When I was growing up, my dad would buy these little replica ships by Micro Machines. Great quality, wonderful collectors items, and we played with them right into their destruction. Heck, we kept playing with them after they broke! Anyway, they are now collectors items, and there's no way I can justify spending that kind of money on what I would use as toys (I'm sure that somewhere, some Trekkie collector just died a little). Flourmom still is hoping to raise enough money to take a trip to Welland to see her grandbaby Faith, who is 16 months old. They have never seen each other yet.
That means this baby is now walking and beginning to talk, and doing all sorts of memorable things... and has never hugged her Grammy yet!
Flourmom is not too well known here in the forest, but she has been a help and encouragement to a number of members here and is a good friend to me personally.
With help from other members, especially AllyT, who lives on the other side of the world, we are trying to help this lady get to meet her youngest grandchild (the only daughter of her youngest daughter).
Bus fare will be about $350, and the trip will take about 24 hours because there will be a stopover in Toronto. There is no direct route. Flourmom is trying to set aside money toward her trip, but she is very thankful that we are wanting to help her out in this way!

Rhonda's daughter Shannon committed suicide Saturday, November 10th at their home. She shot herself in the backyard. Shannon has been very sick for 2-3 months now and the doctors could not find a reason. She lost 30 lbs in that time, and was deathly afraid that she had cancer, although none was identified.

Rhonda and her family are extremely overwrought and overwhelmed right now. An autopsy will be done in Atlanta, and they are going to a funeral home tomorrow to make arrangements. I'll be talking to Rhonda tomorrow, probably in the afternoon/evening. I'll give her all your love, but she may not be around for a while, I'm sure y'all understand that. They are trying to come up with $3,600, which is the minimum they have to come up with for the funeral, etc. The funeral home will let them finance the rest of the amount, which is an additional $2,000. LOW VISION MAGNIFIER FOR MY FATHER - MACULAR EYE DISEASE

This wish is not for me, but for someone very dear in my life. My father. He was diagnosed with Macular Degenerative Eye Disease approximately 20 years ago. He has been declared legally blind, however he can see peripherally, meaning he can look sideways and see a little bit. However he cannot read fine print, or see writing on the tv, like in ads, etc. He mostly sees shadows. He is 81 years old, and worries constantly what is going to happen to him should my mother not be able to drive anymore, as well not be able to handle bills, correspondence, and the like. Unfortunately I am 400 miles away from my parents, so I can not be there on a daily basis. But when i do, my father brings out papers they have received in the mail, asking me to read to him what they are, if they are bills, etc. While my mother seems to be doing well healthwise, she is slowly slipping in memory and being able to handle day to day tasks, simple things such as writing and managing certain things. This frustrates my dad, because if it weren't for his lack of sight, he could manage it all.

Therefore the request for the money to buy them a Low vision Magnifier that would allow him to be able to handle those day to day tasks. Something as simple as reading a bill. A statement from medicare. Or to be able to bring him back to some independence in being able to read the newspaper or a magazine!! It would thrill me to be able to get him a magazine subscription and KNOW he could read it on his own!!

So there is my wish. I am asking for some much needed independence in my father's life. He has talked about wanting to get one of these magnifiers, however living on a fixed income, it makes it very difficult to get something like this. I wish I could buy them one myself, but I just dont have that kind of money. PLEASE find it in your heart to vote for my wish so I can make my fathers wish come true!!!!

cooks because he said I will not be cooking

there are a few homeless out there that are
needing a home until they can get themselves
help or on their feet.
This will be a big step for the both of us.

years now.

My sister's husband passed away in 2005 from difficulties following a brain anerysum and a stroke. This came suddenly, and his hospital stay was over a year. He left behind 4 beautiful children...three boys and a girl. They are now being raised by an incredible woman; my sister.

I'm not asking for much. Enough money to get them a gift card to a local grocery store, and some clothes and shoes for all five family members. They are living off of Social Security checks, and that is no way for children to grow up. They need underwear, socks, shoes, books, and toys. As many of you know my story, our family has just moved to Ohio. We have a nice 2 bedroom apartment and the only problem is we had to do all the painting and fixing.
