Yarn to make a heavy blanket, so that I can sleep

I have been having trouble sleeping lately, and part of the reason is that my blankets are not heavy enough.

When I was a kid I had a heavy quilt from my grandmother and I remember how it felt to have that dropped over me and pressing down on me while I slept. Since then, there have been a few times that I have had the chance to sleep places where I have had access to a really heavy blanket or blankets and those nights I have slept very well.

I mentioned this once to my son's occupational therapist and she told me that this is not surprising as many autistic people need the pressure from heavy blankets in order to sleep. In fact, she will often prescribe weighted blankets to autistic people who have sleep issues. These weighted blankets are usually quite expensive (in the range of $220 or more for a queen sized one) [ link ]

I recently finished making and shipping out a queen sized knit blanket to a friend of mine. It's finished weight was just under 12 lbs. This is less than a prescription weighted blanket would be but it was heavy enough that working on it and having it sit in my lap while I finished it was very very relaxing. I think that if I were able to make myself one, it would help me be able to sleep much better. (photo is not the blanket that I made, I did not take a picture of that one)

This $100 would cover more than half of the costs of making a blanket like the one I made for my friend, for myself, as long as I found a great deal on yarn like I did the last time. I am looking forward to finally being able to get a good night's sleep. (more)

The Grammy on the Bus Goes Round and Round

Flourmom still is hoping to raise enough money to take a trip to Welland to see her grandbaby Faith, who is 16 months old. They have never seen each other yet.
That means this baby is now walking and beginning to talk, and doing all sorts of memorable things... and has never hugged her Grammy yet!
Flourmom is not too well known here in the forest, but she has been a help and encouragement to a number of members here and is a good friend to me personally.
With help from other members, especially AllyT, who lives on the other side of the world, we are trying to help this lady get to meet her youngest grandchild (the only daughter of her youngest daughter).
Bus fare will be about $350, and the trip will take about 24 hours because there will be a stopover in Toronto. There is no direct route. Flourmom is trying to set aside money toward her trip, but she is very thankful that we are wanting to help her out in this way!

A pretty toxic combination that I wouldn't want a "shot" of!

As some of you me of you may know our son Jamie is autistic and non verbal. He regressed at 2 years old and lost all of his language and developed autistic like behaviors and characteristics. What you may not know is that we think his regression was caused by the Mercury he recieved through his childhood vaccinations and medications. Many of the symptoms of Mercury ( commonly called thimersol) posioning are the same as some of the symptoms of Autism.In the late 90s the EPA found that children were recieving 187 times the recommened daily limit of Mercury exposure for an adult.[ link ]
Although Mercury has been removed from most childhood vaccinations many dangerous and toxic chemicals still remain. Some of these being formaldhyde,antifreeze, aluminum, cyanide and the list comtinues. [ link ]

Actress Jenny McCarthy whose son also has Autism will be holding a Green our Vaccines and Autism Rally in Washington DC this June. It is very important to the health of children that our voices be heard and the government take a strong look at just what is going ino their tiny bodies.
We are not Anti Vaccine nor do we believe that all autism is caused by Mercury. We do believe that vaccines should be safer and some children with mercury posioning may have been misdiagnosed as Autistic.
My husband Dave has expressed an interest in going to the Rally in Washington DC and I'm doing whatever I can to get him there.So far we have raised 63.00 selling Autism Awareness ribbons and through donations I have a chip in page for this purpose and anyone who donates 3.00 or more will get an Autism Awareness ribbon.

I have had my cat for about two and a half years now and it is time again for his rabies shot. With all the plumbing problems we had recently and paying off an attorney I don't have the money to get his shots. AmazingGrayce showed me about claw caps that go right over their nails instead of removing them. Plus they come in pretty colors! I'm sure the cat doesn't care about the colors but they are so cute! The McCune Family's Story

Jason (he's now 5 was 4 when accident happened), Sarah (his sister, she's 8), & their mom, om, Carmen, were in a horrible car accident on 7/29/07 .Both kids were unconscious & Sarah had her stomach cut open by her seat belt w/her intestines exposed, & both kids needed CPR. They flew both kids to the children's hospital in Little Rock Arkansas .They both had work done on their small intestines, & bowels. Sarah had a broken vertebrae, abscesses in her stomach, & some other injuries, she had her surgery and she is now home.
Jason has a broken back, torn spine, brain swelling, hematomas, & more injuries. He is paralyzed from the neck down. He just had a trachea put in & it'll be about 2-3 months before he might be able to leave the hospital. He has been transferred to the hospital in Dallas.
Carmen broke her tibea & fibea, & had surgery on her ankle & shes doing better. If that's not enough Carmen & Chad (her husband, the kid's dad) lost their baby Caleb at 5 months old this past December 24,2006 to SIDS.

Jason has already been through a couple surgeries and even celebrated his 5th birthday on September 17th in the hospital. Jason loves Superheroes. We all like to call him Superman. We pray he will be completely healed and he will walk out of that hospital.

My name is Kevin my Wife's name is Gail. I am 43 years old and I need some help to provide for my Family. I was a healthy man who used to work to provide for my Family donated to my Church or anyone who needed help. Now we need the help and no where to turn. 2 tears ago in July of 2005 I suffered what I thought was a stroke or a heart attack but when I was taken to York Hospital they ran test and found what was believed to be a Brain Tumor. It turned out to be a Brain Mass/Infection that caused a stroke to my right side RIGHT and limited the use of my right side Then they Diagnosed me as having Chorea which is something like Hunttingtons Desease. Now I live on Social Security Disability and can barely make it. I take 6-9 different medicines a couple of them are Seroquel 200 MG, Zoloft for Depression, Haloperadol, Depakote 200 MG. that is just to name a few. My wife went into the Hospital July6, 2007 and was diagnosed with a High Anxiety Attack That was brought on by stress and we thought it was a heart attack and we praise the Lord it wasn't. WASN'T. But she takes care of us all she worries about the medicines, the Dr.s Visits, The kids the bills everything!! We thank God for her everyday. Anyway that is why we are seeking help from anybody who will take the time to read this. We thank you for taking the time to read this and may the Lord Bless You in all you or put your hands to. Santana is a near drowning victim. He is such a beautiful little boy and it is a miracle that he is here. I will not give up on winning this for him. He and his family need all the help they can get to pay for his treatments. These treatments are helping him to make tremedous strides. He has even started to try and sit up a couple of times. It is amazing and he is amazing. When he fell into that pool, he was without oxygen for 45 minutes and clinically dead for 30 minutes. Do you see how he is a miracle? Those who rescued Santana didn't give up on him, and I will not give up on him now. Will you please help him to heal. Here is a video of Santana before and after the incident. (more)

ok this is me talking to you..Hello you know me as the hug monster. Yes I have 3 boys with autism. I also have 2 step daughters. All the ages? boys are 3, 4, and 6. Girls are 9 and 12.
Ok I have no doubt that all of you who make wishes for christmas gifts for all of your children, are wanting your children to have a good christmas. Yes it should be a special christmas. But do they realy need soo much for christmas? I know of a few simple ways to give them christmas gifts without having money until you can have money for them to have gifts.
1. how about a nice letter in thier stockings? You say they are under 3 and you don't want them to have paper. Well you can write to them too and read it to them and then put it up until they are older.
2. Find some things around the house that you can make a gift for them. After all a homemade gift is better than a store bought gift any day..(In my book anyways)
3. If you can come on here to make a wish then you can look on the net for nice pictures and save them, if you have a printer you can print them and either make a nice card or make your own picture frame and put the pic in it. If you don't have a printer and don't have a friend near you who have one, make an email just for your kiddo to go check his/her own mail and let it be special.
4. Just be creative and think of what they love the most and make coupons for them. ANy type of coupons, like hug coupons and so on.
5. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of a special child, Christ. and it is for families to be together and be there for each other.
Why ask for sooo much money for kids? They most likely aren't going to rmeber the gifts as much as they would being with you all snuggled up.
Ok I know you may love this wish and compliment me or you may hate this wisdh and bash me. It doesn't matter how you take my wish this round. all I care about is you take a moment and think about what your child realy needs and is more interested in for christmas.
I have made this only out of my heart to try and help you al out that have no means of money or very little money. shoot very little money is better than anything at this point.

I put it as needy because I realy need it for making fast foods for my 3 boys.
It's rough hearing them say food food now now when it's in the oven for longer than it would take for the microwave.
It is a real need in this house. I don't know about if it is your house. But yeah here it is.
It also cuts down on using alot of heat on the nice hot days we have here in Tx. You know use the oven and it gets hotter you sweat more. Use the microwave it doens't get hotter and you don't sweat as much. :)
So I am wishing for a good cheap microwave.:)

funeral expenses for friend's sister

My friend's sister passed away today. She was in a head-on collusion this past Saturday the 17th. She wasn't drinking or anything. She was with 2 friends. A car sworved & collided in with her. She was driving. Her first surgery was unsuccessful so she had a 2nd one and by then she passed away. Her 2 other friends are currently in comas. How awful for their Thanksgiving now. I'd really like to help them with the funeral. (more)

this i know is a nice wish!!2 beautiful children could use some clothes for christmas and i will have to ship the stuff also.maybe even a small toy each.these children have no parent there grandma has custody and she had a stroke 5 weeks ago.personally i wish i could buy them something myself but i can afford the presents .Please help me help them they are sweet and in need,.it will make grandma happy and take the eight off her alot thank you and God Bless
