Financial help and prayers, for Brooke and her family....

As many of you know, my cousin Brooke Springer was in a bad vehicle accident on
March 18, 2008, in Webster Springs-West Virginia. In the beginning it was touch and go. Brooke broke her neck and back. She bruised her lungs, and broke her pelvis front and back, too.
She had numerous injuries and was in a hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, for approximately 2 weeks. She has since been moved to HealthSouth Mountain View Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, in Morgantown, West Virginia, for rehabilitation.
The doctors are saying that she will more than likely be paralyzed from the waste down.
Brooke is very depressed and has started to realize her limitations. She is only 18 and was getting ready
to graduate from high school. She is used to playing all different kinds of sports, and this is a devastating blow to what she once knew, and how she lived her life.
These types of injuries, cause so many different problems.
Her family is in need of financial support, as well as, prayers.
This money would help to cover some of the costs associated with Brooke's hospital stay, room and board, or food for her mom to stay with her in Morgantown, while Brooke is going through rehabilitation. Her mother lives 3 hours away, and cannot drive this everyday.
Her mother is still recovering from a double-lung transplant, that she received back in January.
At this time, the doctors aren't expecting Brooke to go home for at least, another month and half.
They will be letting her attend her graduation if at all possible, but she will have to go right back to the rehabilitation center.
We are not giving up on Brooke, and know it is very possible that she may walk again.
We have strong faith, and we are holding on to that!

Myself and my daughter, never get to get out of the house.
We have read every book we can get our hands on, and were in need of a new hobby.
We needed something to keep us busy and something to keep us from being bored.
A wonderful member here, is sending us some things to get us started on learning how to
create plastic canvas.
We are both very excited, and are looking forward to learning a new hobby that will keep us busy.
We are thinking this is something we could do to make Christmas gifts, and also maybe make some
things to sell.
I'm so excited, and so is she.
I would just like to purchase some canvas, yarn, and shapes for our new hobby.
They have these really awesome ornament canvas and beautiful metallic yarns, that would

I have been having trouble sleeping lately, and part of the reason is that my blankets are not heavy enough.

When I was a kid I had a heavy quilt from my grandmother and I remember how it felt to have that dropped over me and pressing down on me while I slept. Since then, there have been a few times that I have had the chance to sleep places where I have had access to a really heavy blanket or blankets and those nights I have slept very well.

I mentioned this once to my son's occupational therapist and she told me that this is not surprising as many autistic people need the pressure from heavy blankets in order to sleep. In fact, she will often prescribe weighted blankets to autistic people who have sleep issues. These weighted blankets are usually quite expensive (in the range of $220 or more for a queen sized one) [ link ]

I recently finished making and shipping out a queen sized knit blanket to a friend of mine. It's finished weight was just under 12 lbs. This is less than a prescription weighted blanket would be but it was heavy enough that working on it and having it sit in my lap while I finished it was very very relaxing. I think that if I were able to make myself one, it would help me be able to sleep much better. (photo is not the blanket that I made, I did not take a picture of that one)

This $100 would cover more than half of the costs of making a blanket like the one I made for my friend, for myself, as long as I found a great deal on yarn like I did the last time. I am looking forward to finally being able to get a good night's sleep. (more)

With Mckinleygracelee's help, I've bought some micro machines for myself off of EBay. I'd certainly like some more, but their beyond my means for the time being.
This wish is for a young Trekie, who I feel somewhat responsible for. KatyCat's young one saw some of the pictures of the toys I've been trying for, and is very interested. I was thinking since his birthday is coming up, this would be a nice thing that we could do for him. $50 will get him a nice set to start out with, containing about 13 ships, and cover the shipping.

On January 24th I will turn 24. This special once in a lifetime occassion, known as a champagne birthday, is very exciting.

To Give My Son A Voice People Can Hear...

Imagine not being able to ask for what you want or need. Not even being able to tell some if you hurt, are hungry or just have to go to the bathroom. Thats what my son deals with everyday.
His name is Jamie and hes 11,autistic and non verbal I am making this wish to help with purchasing an assistive communication device called a Go Talk

So far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get the school district to provide one. They always have an excuse as to why now is not the time for them to purchase one for him. There current reason is that he just started in a new classroom with a new teacher so lets give him time to adjust before we bring in something new.
He currently uses some PECS to communicate but they are always getting misplaced or ruined because he chews on them.
As far as our medical coverage paying for the device we have an HMO and they will not cover any equipment that is not medically neccessary. Apparently being able to communicate is not a medical neccessity.
Previously hes used a Go Talk that a past teacher purchased for his use at school. Unfortunately when we moved the device had to stay with the teacher.
The Go Talk was really easy for Jamie to access and gave him a voice. He was doing so well with it before our move which is why I would like to get him his own.

The cost of a GoTalk is 249.00 and I realize that the pot is only 100.00 so I have set up a chipin account in case anyone would like to help with the purchase of this device.

For a child who wishes to be "normal" for a week...No, this won't make him well, it isn't a prescription or medically necessary, ecessary, but is is good medicine! What better than camping to have family togetherness and relax? If it helps him be happy for a week, even better! He doesn't want sympathy, just some normalcy, and we all need it.
My son has been very ill for a few months (he is chronically ill, but it has been bad lately) and is now on homebound once again and misses alot, he can't go on the trip to Mexico with his spanish 2 class due to his illness, he has had to make 4 trips to his oncologist, pulmonologist 2 to3 1/2 hours trips one way, and close to 20 to his doctor/hospital..all he wants is to get out of here and go camping again! We ALL need to get away, ( him, mom, dad and 2 brothers), as we are all feeling the tension that comes with having a chronically ill family member. We took him on his first camping trip (he is now 14), last summer for a weekend. He absolutely loved it, even the skeeter bites and poison ivy! We allowed him to swim in the river too (doctor tore me a new one for that!) he fished, roasted marshmallows and hot dogs, went hiking anf just enjoyed the natural fresh air... he got to be a "normal" kid, we want to see him smile like that again. Yes, he ended up ill for a couple weeks, but he told his doctor it was worth it. My husband has a week vacation this summer, and we want to take him and his brothers into the National Forest for the whole week. He will still be close enough to home to get to the hosp if an emergency arises, but far enough away to relax and be "normal" for awhile. His doctor said if we take him, we have to take better precautions this time. He cannot sleep in a tent in a sleeping bag, he must have an air mattress or stay in a camper. To rent a camper would cost over 100.00 for the week, so we will go with our tents and just purchase him a full size (he's a big boy) air mattress. When he does his 2 shots each day, he must cover them, no sunburn, no river swimming (I didn't promise), and a list of other things. The wish would cover gas, mattress, 1 tent, food, jugs of spring water, medical supplies, and anything we need for him for his sanitary precautions. Thanks (more)

$100 to take my cat to the vet

We have 5 cats and love them so very much. My oldest cat who we call "bubba" or bubs" got some kind of an eye infection. I took him to the "low cost" animal clinic (where they charge based on your household income, I paid $40) and they gave him some medicine but it actually made it worse!

So I called a regular vet but they won't see him without payment being made at the time of the visit. I was saving money the last couple weeks to take him to the regular vet but when our car broke down last week and I had no choice but to spend the money to fix it since we must be able to get to work to pay the rent so we dont end up homeless, we are paycheck to paycheck people like many others on here.

I really love and care for my cats so much, they are members of our family and I hate to see my "baby" in any kind of discomfort or pain. He is my oldest and has been with me for years. He has given me many moments of happiness and friendship and I just want to help him now, when he needs it the most.

If I won the $100, it would cover the vet bill, any medicines perscribed, and hopefully a few dollars for the gas to go over there.

While out looking for a few things for someone in a paper store the other day. I naturally wandered over to the section of the store that had Thomas the Train things. Knowing how Kedan loved Thomas (and his Mom) and how Toot loves Kedan, I saw something I would really love to get her. At that store they have a wonderful Thomas the Train scrapbook and all kinds of stuff to go with it. The scrapbook is $35 and the extras would probably run a little more than $10 but if this wish wins, I will gladly cover the cost of the extras and the shipping to Toot.

Toot says she has a small one already but wouldn't it be wonderful if she could have this nice scrapbook where she could keep his photos and other memories? (more)
