We are a family of seven. My six year old daughter was recently in the pediatric ICU for 13 days followed by another 6 days on the regular floor. We were told the first night that we should start making arrangements for her funeral because she would not make it through the night. She is truly a fighter and has already fought so hard to live, I just wish that we could provide a little enjoyment now.
Her 1st grade class had a field trip to the Chattanooga aquarium during the time that she was in the hospital. She was really looking forward to going. When she was strong enough, she started looking at the calender and realized that she had missed the trip. It was heartbreaking to see the look on her face!! What she said next was amazingly grown up. "It's o.k. It won't be the same, but I can go with my brothers and sisters this summer. It will almost be as good!"
