I'm 21 years old and I am in my 4th year of undergraduate study at the University of Toronto, specializing in Christianity and Culture.
This coming May, I am scheduled to go to Ghana, West Africa for a three-month volunteer work placement. I will be working at a school that provides elementary and high school level education to rural, low-income children with the hope that they can increase opportunities for work, build leadership skills and help develop their own communities.
The village where the school is located is a community near Tema, a port and residential city in Ghana where most people make their livelihood through farming as well as some weaving and other manual skills.
The organization through which I am going is called Intercordia Canada. Intercordia believes that with the proper support, cross-cultural respect for difference and inequality can be learned. These efforts strive to counter the current status quo where ethnic, cultural and religious differences often lead to fear and division among people.

While currently completing a series of on-campus and province-wide seminars, along with regular academic classes addressing current global issues, I look forward to my immersion experience at the end of the term.
I love kids, and it has been a dream of mine to be able to do a volunteer placement such as this one. As I try to raise funds to cover my travel and lodging expenses, I earnestly ask for your support and contribution.
Thank you for reading my wish!
