Originally born in Peru, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow up in the Chicagoland area from age 9. It has been a great ride so far. I now live in San Francisco California simply because its one of the few places in the country that I am fit to live. I am grateful to have attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and to have pioneered the Organizational Studies concentration at the college of LS&A. Its my greatest accomplishment in college, not my grades. I am very adventurous. I take chances with life. Aside from attending college, I never followed conventional life paths, which is why I had not settled into a career early like most people I know. I have done a bit of travelling all around, but the best and worthiest trip was spending 6 months in India, living a hindu life and learning yoga from great masters. I dont practice yoga 5 hours a day like I used to. I simply do 5 to 10 sun salutations a day, this will keep you fit, trust me. Its really all you need. Your breath is the most important part of yoga anyway, not how far you can stretch. I have worked in the web services industry for about 5 years in various capacities. Recently I was hired into a new company with the title of Associate Product Manager. I also taught middle school in West Oakland, this was the hardest job I ever had. I have been djing for 12 years. for 7 of those I played regular gigs. The high point of my dj career was playing after Kevin Saunderson and Stacey Pullen at Priviledge, in Ibiza Spain. The other high point was when my dj hero, Richie Hawtin personally wrote to tell me he liked one of my tracks on my demo and that he wanted more. If you dont know these names, dont worry about it. Trust me its good. This career path is full of crap people though, not really the dj's but the egomaniacal promoters usually. To this day, I am one of the best djs I know, there are few out there that are better and I pay respect where respect is due. I no longer play out, only when special circumstances call for it. I do plan on sending Richie more original music. I started making films last year. Most of my friends are filmmakers. I never had any intentions of making movies before. My original major in college was photography, but my mother and my father protested against it. Good, Id rather pay for my college loans through other work rather than photography. I briefly quit my job last year to make a movie. I told you I take chances. I submitted it to a contest sponsored by Current TV, Al Gore's new network cable station available nationwide. Out of 380 entries, 12 movies were chosen to air, 6 of them were finalist for the grand price of 100,000. I did not win, but I was one of the 12 finalists. Not bad for my first movie ever. I frankly thought I was going to win from the start. My topic was social justice related. It explored a very complex subject regarding illegal immigrants working in post Katrina New Orleans. Since then I am inspired to make more movies. I would love to make movies for a living, but I am happy to do it as a side passion too. I like my new job and enjoy the fruits of that labor too. San Francisco is an expensive city and I am not rich by any means. Truth be told, my college loans and old credit card bills from my world travelling keep my pretty frugal. Maybe this fund will help me see the light at the end of the debt tunnel.
