Bio:

Hi. I'm an English teacher, activist and sometimes writer. I'm currently working on the ostensibly unfinished first novel, "Italian Greyhound" and am president of the board of direcotrs for the Olympia-Rafah Sister City Project which creates bonds between Olympia, WA, and Rafah, Gaza, and acts as an advocate for a people in a part of the world impacted by U.S. policy without having a voice about that policy. Other than that, I'm a hiker, mountain biker, lover of spicy foods, quality beers, strong coffee, comics, movies, reading, etc. Am currently stopped off in Rabat, Morocco, working at an English language school and prepping to head to Rafah to further the work of the sister city project. But home is always Oly.

Personal Information

Member Since: February 2, 2007
Activities: Web surfing, book reading, book writing, photo taking, coffee drinking, beer quaffing, journey taking, human rights activist engaging, nap having, food eating, food cooking, camping going, fish catching, mountain climbing, clothes shedding, vintage shop shopping, comic book buying, work avoiding.
Interests: My first novel, Italian Greyound, has been ostensibly forthcoming since around 2003. Lost it in 2005. Started rewriting it in 2007 and its now going gangbusters. I travel, stick my nose where it doesn't belong, try to avoid situations where a boss is involved (though seem to have oneagain at the moment) and generally try to keep things interesting. Am currently the president of the board of directors for an organization called the Olympia-Rafah Sister city Project that's eaten quite a bit of my life since its founding back in 2003. Am in Morocco as of this writing, but am either looking to head bck to Oly or to Rafah in the near future to help move the project ahead.
Favourite Music: Only have about 26.7 days worth of music in iTunes at the moment. I like just about everything. Staple bands over the years seem to be the Pixies, Nirvana, Cowboy Junkies, Liz Phair and Sleater-Kinney, all but two being done with. Been listening to The Kills, Iron & White, Jens Lekman, The Decemberists and the Dropkick Murphies a lot lately. But for some reason, during the week that I write this, I've been listening a lot to an old Dave Grohl aucoustic rendition of Tiny Dancer from an episode of some talk show.
Favourite Tv Shows: Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The show that is about eveything. Prison Break: Reality break Murder One: It's old but I just watched it on DVD and got a kick out of it. Star Trek classic Twilight Zone classic Jackass Seinfeld Daily Show Colbert Report Twin Peaks: timeless, man. I'm in Morocco right now. I don't watch much TV besides the BBC, al Jazeera, football matches and overly produced Arab music videos.
Favourite Movies: The Big Lebowski I Heart Huckabees Buckaroo Banzai The Jerk Paradise Now Good Night, and good Luck Casablanca His Girl Friday Lost in Translation The Godfathers three the Star Wars six the Lords three
Favourite Books: Mother Night The Corrections High Fidelity Mother Night The God of Small Things Devil in a Blue Dress
Quotes: "You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas."
? Shirley Chisholm, presidential candidate in 1972 and the first African-American woman to win a seat in the United States Congress
Like To Meet: Interesting, fun cooky people.
Heroes: Mom; Jesus, the oft-misquoted middle eastern anti-occuapation bleeding-heart political activist killed by over free speech by a corrupt government some years ago; Dau Aung Su Kie; Dudley, the big orange cat of unkown age or origin I had from about 3rd grade through college.
