Bio:

I am a 39 year old philosophy professor living in Dallas with my amazing husband, our four dogs and four cats. I used to work in the film business in L.A. but gave it all up to give back. What was I thinking?! Anyway, we landed back in my hometown where we have some excellent friends and family and where I, oddly, have seen more film people I worked with in L.A. in the past year than I have in the last 5 years. Go figure. My students love my classes, usually, and I adore my students. I am very open to new ideas and I love watching those kids discover new ideas. If I won the lottery tomorrow I wouldn't quit my job.

Favourite Movies: My favorite movie of all time is The Lover. But there are so many more I love. Chidren of Heaven, Children of Paradise, Casablanca, The Hudsucker Proxy, Once Upon A Time In The West, the list goes on and on.
Favourite Books: Again, there are so many. The North China Lover, Les Miserables, Freddy and Fredericka, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Eyre Affair, Johnny Got His Gun, anything by Aristotle, etc.
Quotes: "But maybe the truth is that, as he used to say, our human tragedy is that we are unable to comprehend our experience, it slips through our fingers, we can't hold on to it, and the more time passes, the harder it gets. Maybe too much time has passed for you, and you will have to accept, I'm sorry to say it, that there are things about your experience you will never understand. My father said that the natural world gave us explanations to compensate for the meanings we could not grasp. The slant of the cold sunlight on a winter pine, the music of water, an oar cutting the lake and the flight of birds, the mountains' nobility, the silence of the silence. We are given life but must accept that it is unattainable and rejoice in what can be held in the eye, the memory, the mind."

Just passing by to say Hi -- am looking for another professor friend here but am glad I came across you! Wishing you all the best -- you're a great writer (love your blog) and you *should* write that book!

On behalf of all the young people (and my hard working hubby), we thank you for your vote of support on that last round. Those kids don't have a friend in the world, so a vote of confidence means everything... Feel free to forward your wishes my way (or others you'd like to call to my attention).
With peace and in kindness,
Karen

I love the CROCS comment. I hate those bloody things. Have you seen Idocracy? It's somewhat amusing. But they all wear crocs. What a crock.
