My Husband and I were married 6 years ago. We have been trying since then to achieve pregnancy. Since I had chemotherapy a number of years ago, we don't know if I can, however, I started to chart 2 years ago and discovered that I wasn't ovulating. So, In September, I started taking Clomid, and that appears to be kick starting ovulation. The problem so far is that A: The Clomid is $93/cycle, and I'm due for 5 more cycles... We have no drug coverage B: I need some more tests, but they are unavailable here... I have to travel to Timmins for them, and that is a 2 hour drive each way. The tests and about 1/3 of the cost of the travel is covered by the government, but we pay the rest out of pocket. There are also various herbal remedies that are said to enhance fertility that we have considered trying.

heck... I've been flamed for stating my opinion about giving chemo to a dog. the funniest thing about it is that even tho it was my opinion, I was basically told I need to respect other people's opinions. Just seems funny to me =)

so, downvote for me! lets see how low I can go! =)

Travel & Accommodation Assistance During Radiation Treatment

Travel & Accommodation Assistance During Radiation Treatment

As people who've read my profile will know, I've had an ongoing battle with brain cancer for the past 19 years. Until April 10 2008 we thought the tumour was "stable". Though not growing or enhancing (receiving blood flow) it wasn't shrinking either. Well, we were wrong about that one! the tumour IS receiving blood and it IS growing, and the doctors want to do 6 weeks of radiation treatments right away. Originally they had suggested surgery, and I'm very thankful I won't have to have that again. However, never having had radiation, and knowing that you are tightly restrained during the treatments, I know my claustrophobia will bother me.

The treatment center is about a 12 hour drive away from my home, so I have to be away from home all this time. While I can stay at "The Lodge" for cancer patients for a fee of $475, my husband probably can not stay with me - both because of a lack of space and because for him, as a non-patient, the charge would be an additional $2600. there are many other small disadvantages to staying at the lodge, but 2 big advantages are: meals are included free of charge, and travel from the lodge to the hospital is provided for free.

My husband could stay with some relatives during the week and visit me on weekends, which would cut down on costs, but since they also live about 2 hours away from the hospital, and since current gas prices are $1.30/liter (about $5.20/gallon for you americans =) that is still a costly solution.

Just for comparison's sake: a "cheap" hotel in that area runs between $175 and $200 PER NIGHT, and that still doesn't include the cost of food or parking.

I'm asking for this wish to contribute to my costs: Gas: $500, Accommodation: $475, Food: $600, Medication: Unknown,

I've had an ongoing battle with brain cancer for the past 19 years. This is the 8th time the tumor has grown. There are 2 masses located in the cerebellum, one is about the size of an orange and the other is the size of an alley marble. (The bigger marble size)

I've had both chemotherapy and surgery before, and this time they are using radiation. The Doctors are confident that with my tumor type, the radiation will be successful and the tumor will be controlled for 10 or more years.

I will have a total of 30 treatments; daily, Monday to Friday for 6 weeks. During the 25 minute treatment my head will be tightly restrained against the table and I will be unable to open my eyes or even to speak. Because I have claustrophobia, during my 2 fittings (about 10 minutes each) I had massive panic attacks. Believe it or not, that is one of the things that worried me the most about the treatment. I can deal with bald patches and the nausea, fatigue and scalp pain, and even the small risk of paralysis, I've had all that before and survived, but restraints freak me out.

During the treatment I will be staying at "The Lodge" during the week because the hospital is about 12 hours from my home. That cost is $450. My husband can not stay with me, so he will be staying with my family about 2 hours outside the city and I will be seeing him on weekends.

If anyone would like more information, please feel free to contact me. If anyone would like to make a donation, I can also accept PayPal, and will message my email address on request. I don't know how to Embed it here.

*update* I have received some anxiety drugs donated by a doctor and $450 towards my costs thus far. We still need to raise about $1125.00, maybe more if I have to take corticosteroids (radiation can cause swelling, this drug shrinks it) or strong anti-nauseants.

A laptop computer while I'm away for radiation treatments

A laptop computer while I'm away for radiation treatments

I got a brand new laptop a month ago for some trips I was taking, and then discovered that I needed radiation treatments to treat a brain tumor. Very shortly after returning home from that medical trip, I dropped a bowl of soup on the computer and completely fried it. According to the repair shop, the cost to repair it is more than the cost of a new one!
Now I need my laptop to keep me sane while I'm away from home and receiving treatments that terrify me for 7 weeks.

**UPDATE** For no reason that the repair shop could explain, the laptop started to function normally! According to them there was nothing they did and no explanation for why it did... I think we'll just call that a miracle. =)

however, I am going to modify the wish, because I still need a travel case and an external mouse, because of some of my physical challenges, I can't use the touchpad.
Case: $34.19
Mouse: $22.18
