a DESPERATELY needed chance to make art full time
I am an artist concerned with social issues, and make art to educate people and get them active in their communities. Although very, very rewarding, this doesn't earn money to live day to day. Because I need to maintain a job to pay for my art and to pay the rent, I do not have the time to produce any art at all. Now I have an amazing opportunity to launch a new project at a major gallery, yet I have NO TIME at all to make art due to demands from my job, and increasingly cannot balance the two. The clock is ticking, and i only have 11 months left to complete a very intensive piece of art about child labour that will reach high schools all over North America. I am a hard working young lady, and have won many accolaides including a very prestigious award for Most Promising Emerging Artist in Canada. If I could wish for time I would, and that is what these funds would provide me with. My art does not generate any profit as it is not sale-able, so I stand to earn no money from this project at all. I believe very strongly in using my art to affect change in the world, and to raise awareness. My last project, ODE, can be viewed at [ link ] so you can see the quality of my work, and that I am not fooling around. To illustrate my need, I spent over $40,000 of my own money completing and touring my last exhibition. I earned nothing in return except the excitement of meeting new people and sharing ideas with people all over North America. Please, I ask you to see the value of spreading ideas, and the opportunity that time to make art would offer. I have no other resource to turn to, and no idea quite frankly what to do. |

Kenny has never seen a mountain-ONLY snowboarded on Garbage!
My lovely roomate Kenny is an avid snowboarder who has never seen the mountains. We live in Saskatoon, and he has become a very skilled rider practicing on a mountain made of garbage-yes garbage, which is the only local hill (it's pretty flat here as i am certain you can imagine! A garbage mountain is a pretty decent solution around here). We work together, where i see him work very hard day in and day out cooking food at a restaurant. He rarely gets a day off, and when he does, if he can afford it, his time is dedicated to snowboarding. He is one of the loveliest, kindest people I know, and he has a smile and a giggle for everyone. Please vote for sweet Kenny, who will likely take his father if he wins! |

To learn Japanese!
Now that I have a bit more free time on my hands, (having lost my very demanding job-see my granted wish story in the 'blog' section of this website for a bit of history), I would really enjoy and benefit from a weekly Japanese class. It would get me out of the studio, increase my knowledge of the world, help me meet like-minded people, and make travelling easier! It is taught at the local University, and lasts eight weeks. The class is two hours a week, and will not cut drastically into my art making time. Plus, it will have the added benefit of making the message of my art easier to spread!
