  • Wish Points: 191.89

This public service is being offered for those people who have complained that I have no wishes so they can not downvote them because I choose to use the 1-5 scale and everyone knows that some people feel that every wish equals 5 stars. Those people have been so upset that I have denied them the right to retaliate and downvote a wish of mine that I thought I should be really nice and give them a way to release thier built up vile and frustration. This way they can be nicer to those around them as they will have been able to release thier anger over someone actually downvoting thier wish. So this wish will accomplish two things I will get particiaption points so that my stars are worth more or less the next time I vote and those peoples families should be happy as their loved one has a place to vent rather than to them.

Twinkies

Twinkies

There are 17 Hostess bakeries across the countries cranking out 500 million Twinkies every year. It takes 40,000 miles of plastic wrap a year to package them. At 150 Calorie a piece, all those Twinkies have the energy equivalent to nearly 51,500 barrels of crude oil.

If you want to know, that comes out to be about 1,000 Twinkies a minute or 16 a second.

There are 39 ingredients in a Twinkie: yes, there are flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, water, and "trace" of egg. The rest of the ingredient list is, shall we say, less natural.

For particiaption and fun please vote how you want to. If by some odd chance this does win I will donate the twinkies to a daycare facility in my area or to a church group that does kids afterschool activities.

Rubik's Cube has 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 color configurations and only one solution. Ideal Toy Company originally wanted to name it "The Gordian Knot." The ultimate 1981 collector's item was a Rubik's Cube showing Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. One of the youngest Cube solvers is a seven year old who doesn't even know how he does it ... and he does it often.

The toy made inventor Erno Rubik Hungary's richest private citizen

If this is won it will be donated to the toy closet on the chronically ill childrens floor at the hospital we use. To be given to a child while recovering in the hospital.

Cotton Candy

  • By: woody
  • Amount: $25
  • Wish Points: 282.02

Cotton CandyCotton candy, or ?fairy floss? as it once was called, is a popular sweet found at amusement parks and festivals. The only ingredient is sugar. Although several people have claimed to discover cotton candy, the first machine was patented in 1899 by Wharton and Morrison. The machines used centrifugal force to spin and weave sugar through tiny holes creating threads. These machines were unreliable and in 1949, Gold Medal Products produced a machine that transformed the cotton candy industry due to its reliability. In America, National Cotton Candy Day is December 7. In making cotton candy, sugar is melted, spun in a liquid state and pulled through tiny holes where it cools and becomes a solid again. The threads are then wound around a stick

If this wish wins I would donate the money to a local school to provide the cotton candy to a class for a reward (that would be for the kids the teacher may not feel so rewarded if they all get sugar highs)

The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620.

The Thanksgiving Feast that the Pilgrims had with the Natives in 1621 lasted three days.

It is not a sure thing that turkey was part of the Thanksgiving Feast, but venison was definitely part of the meal.

All 13 colonies celebrated Thanksgiving together for the first time in 1777.

In 1941, Thanksgiving was declared by Congress to be a legal holiday, held on the fourth Thursday in November.

IF this turkey wish wins the money will purchase as much turkey as possible and be donated to our local senior center so that they can provide seniors with no where else to go a wonderful homecooked thanskgiving dinner. You make the wish win and I will provide the 24 pies they need baked from scratch and the money will provide the tureky plates get covered.

Every mythic hero normally has an equally mythic weapon. Zeus had his thunderbolts. Thor had his hammer, Mjolnir. King Arthur had his Excalibur. Frodo and Bilbo had their Sting. Rhydderch Hael had his Dyrnwyn. King Kong had his bananas?you get the idea. It's time for you to join the ranks of the heroes and heroines of lore as you wield your own legendary weapon in your battle against a very powerful foe: hunger.

The Titanium Spork is ready for the challenge. Titanium is known for its great strength, corrosion resistance, and light weight, which makes this spork a valuable asset around feeding time. Imagine how much more food you could shovel in at your local buffet if you didn't have to worry about the strain of picking up a heavy fork or spoon. Your food consumption can become the stuff of legends. Even just holding the Titanium Spork in your hand, you can feel its power. It is perhaps the greatest gastronomic invention since lickable wallpaper. Hunger, beware - your end is near

Why is this a nice wish well let me tell you there is a member here who wants to cut things really bad and a spork would be so much safer for her then the dull knives she is already using so if this wish wins I will send her the money and the link so she can be trusted around her roommates and the food will be safe not to mention the rest of us.

Peace has to be created, in order to be maintained. It is the product of Faith, Strength, Energy, Will, Sympathy, Justice, Imagination, and the triumph of principle. It will never be achieved by passivity and quietism.
Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence. Dorothy Thompson

Want an easy way to bring cheer into a sick childs life? Want it to only cost 41 cents?
A few minutes of your time? If you can do this it will make a sick childs smile brighter. All I am asking is for each person who reads this wish to take a few minutes and pm me for the address of an 11 year old child who is dealing with the things every 11 year old little girl does but at the same time also a brain tumor that is robbing her of both her health and her vision. If you have any questions and/or will be able to mail a card I will give the name and address to you just pm me. I put the wish at 25.00 for two reasons one not many look at dollar wishes and two if by some chance this does win the 25.00 will be sent to her Mom to purchase something the child needs. Not asking anyone to put anthing in the card but warm wishes for this child and her mother as they deal with this illness. Just a simple card or note to bring a smile across the miles and let her know she is being cared about. Thanks to all who can and to all who read this wish

You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. Although this will be an ongoing need three very generous people here have offered prizes for this effort so my next weeks thought will be for the benefit of someone else. To those three who offered help may the blessings you have offered come back ten thousand times fold to you!

Our son has long held dreams of being a pirate. He is good at finding things his siblings have lost esp. as he is usually the one who hid them in the first place! He will soon be 9 years old and we want to give him his wish to be a pirate for the day. There is a location in Cape Cod where we will be visiting this summer that offers pirate ship parties. If we win this wish his day will start off with a breakfast worthy of a pirate captain and GROG for the rest of us, then down to the docks to impress a crew of pirates and taking the boat out at full sail. Perhaps we will let him make me walk the plank too. We will follow the treasure map and hopefully not have to fire the canons on board to keep other scurvy pirates away! After hoisting in the treasure and keeping the captains share for himself we will make our way back to land and let our pirate dictate the rest of the day perhaps laying on the beach, swimming, or shopping the little shops hunting more treasure. [ link ] We want to rent the whole boat to host a private party as with his Autism he has problems with large groups of people. We could just do the ticket price of $21.00 a head but the extra 100.00 would ensure we could purchase the remaining seats beyond the 10 it would take just for our family ensuring him a better experience. He is most comfortable around family and although he is selectivly mute when comfortable and there are no strangers around he can relax more and have fun. Please help him have a day to remember. We will then top off the night with his favorite meal then tuck him into bed with his stuffed bird and let him dream of the day he can recapture the ship! I know this is not a need but it is something fu n he would love to do and renting the whole boat for a private party is just the thing a greedy pirate would do more Booty for himself that way!

My wish for this week is for a Zippy Zapper!
It would be quite Dapper to have a pink zippy zapper
So handy to subdue the randy
Way better than a piece of candy.
A Zipper Zapper you say?
Yes of course it is much better then a yipper yapper.
What does it do you say?
Makes grown men cry all day
and holds the children nicely at bay.
It is hard to find of one you know
so with 25 I will be off, kids in tow.
I will go up and down.
I will search it out all over town.
You will hear the cheer
when I find that zapper I fear.

This is an entry into the Dr. Suess contest any funds won will go to purchase books for the local Library and donated in the name of GON. Literacy is no joke too many people can not read. So get out there and volunteer and consider helping a local literacy group in your area.

?I would prefer even to fail with honor than to win by cheating?
Sophocles quotes (One of classical Athens' three great tragic playwrights)

I am still runnning this wish in Buddys honor. Thanks to all who have shared and relayed the deaths of thier beautiful furbabies and how they honored and graced your lives. We have in the last few weeks taken in a new family member a toy doxie named Josephine. We have not forgot however the tragedy of Buddys early demise and the honor it would be to make sure that in his honor that no pet is born unwanted or unneeded. Thus if this wish wins the money will go to the spay and neuter clinc to help a family neuter thier pet that may not otherwise be able to afford it.

The community here has decided this year to do a Grey Angel Tree to focus our gift giving over the holidays on an often forgotten age group. Local help can be strained trying to help young families and children and often can not then meet the needs of our vulnerable senior population. Look for the Grey Angel Thread in the forums for more info and how to nominate a member.

"Depression alone may not be enough to cause the death of very old people, who are, after all, survivors. But when depression is accompanied by desolation, it may erode even the hardiest senior's will to live." The holidays are a time seniors often are feeling very depressed. they realise that thier lives are rapidly changing friends and family the same age are becoming in many cases fewer. Thier kids are busy with thier grandchildrena dn great grandchildren. Families often are seperated by many miles and may not be able to swing a visit to Grandma or Grandpas during these economic hard times.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to make at least 4 seniors a gift card to a local market to be able to buy themselves a meal. Often Senior meal programs do not cover holiday periods. If this wish wins the money will be used to cover 4 cards in addition to whatever funds are raised by fundraisors and chipin page (which will be set up and announced in the forums). If enough funds are raised any extra will go to make sure all on the list are adopted. Please think about donating, hosting a fundraiser, bumping the forum threads, nominating a senior here, adopting a grey angel and/or giving your stars to this wish. I will update this wish as things change. This is to have extra funds in addition to the forum raised ones to cover more than 4 families if possible.

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.

The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for a month from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

100 yards of fabric for the Senior Quilters

I am making this greedy as it is not a need they will still find a way to make quilts even if it is as current from the clothing donated that is too damaged for reselling. Our senior center ladies have formed a quilting group to make quilts to donate to various causes like the Linus project, police, redcross, cancer patients, etc. They make baby/lap quilts and all materials are welcome. I would like to take the ladies out to buy 100 yards of the dollar table fabric or less of some of the fun prints that they can then turn into many many quilted hugs for others. Quilting is so much more than just sewing a blanket from scraps for many it is a way to connect and look out for each other. They form friendships, help one another out and connect in a positive way whiloe making an impact of a good kind on the local community. The quilts they make may not be the prettiest as they often have to resort to used clothing bags for fabrics but they are warm and like a hug when it is given to you in a hard time. Lets keep the old ladies productive, ward of depression, and help others all at the same time.

Joann travels 4 hours a day on public transport and often is subjected to listening the kids music choices. She has been driven to the point of nearly ripping thier heads off and stomping the earbuds to get some peace. If she gets to that point we will need to bail her out instead. If this wish wins I will order her an ipod from the apple site have it engraved with her name and from gon so she can instead put her own earbuds in and choose some music (if any money is left I will get her an itunes card) that is more her taste. Lets make her 2-hour each way daily bus trip more relaxing.

Edited amount to reflect chipin donations and beautybag payment Thanks to Stormy for having the auction and to NanT for purchasing.
