I am not sure if this is needy or greedy, but reading how many people need the basics, food, shelter and clothing I decided to put it in needy.
I tell myself that there is always someone worse off then me and the proof is here when you read some of these wishes. So many of them tear at my heart and I wish I had the money to give personally. So many like us are just getting by and are on rent payment or house note away from being homeless. There are so many struggling due to the cost of gas, they can not even afford to get to a job. Medical needs! So many like me have no insurance or even if they do they can not afford the co-pay. One bill away from losing water, electric or gas. Living paycheck to paycheck and just needing a small break.
Thus my wish that everyone here have all they need in 2008. And that others here to have the little wishes that are greedy because it will help them mentally. Like the "me time" or "dinner out" ..just such little things that so many of us really can not afford. Even a happy meal is luxury at my house.
So I hope everyone gets their wishes granted and 2008 is a better year for one and all.

Second try to get a little spending money to give my granddaughters for A-kon this June. A-kon is a convention for Anime fans held in Dallas, Texas every June. My granddaughters so enjoy this (as well as my daughter) and they save all year long to pay for their tickets and room.
We had a hard candy Christmas this year and I was unable to give my granddaughters gifts. So I would really like to be able to give them some spending money for A-kon.

No doubt this is a totally greedy wish. We have a old '94 popup camper.. but still in great condition. There is this great state park with-in 30 miles with campsites at $18.00 a night. The total for 3 nights --$54.00. Why you may ask do we need 3 nights? Have you ever set up a popup camper, or any camper for that matter!! With 3 nights we would have only 1 full day of fishing! So if the campsite is only $54.00 for 3 nights, why am I asking for $100.00, well we gotta eat don't we? And lets not forget, we would need the extra gas to drive there and back.

I had a wish granted that could actually save my life. I know that sounds dramatic. But my wish for a bottle of One Touch Ultra glucose test strips was granted by SLCAvonLady. She sent me 4 bottles and a box of lancets. I have repeatedly tried to help her wish be granted and I will keep trying to repay her kindness and generosity.
I am sure you understand that if I do not have extra money for my own diabetic needs, I do not have any extra money to pay her back. We live on my husband's SSD check. I have no insurance and all my medical is out of pocket. What she did for me was beyond kind. And I feel like a total waste of space not being able to return this act of kindness.

As they say, misery loves company. Well Beachpatty [ link ] and I have been miserable company.
Part of this wish has nothing to do with money. I wish that you all would get to know her as I have. She has a very wonderful sense of humor, in spite of going through some hard times.
I got to the point where I was staying in bed and when I came out of the bedroom, I found that she had been feeling the same way. All the same pressures and issues. I really know just how that feels. This wish started out as a wish for a Walgreen's glucose monitor and box of 50 test strips, because of the cost of the test strips for the monitors I already have, but
thanks to Mommyfourtimes, and the link she gave posted in this wish. I want to get my supplies from this site [ link ] The over all savings is huge! Not only less expensive test strips, but they include syringes, swabs, and lancets.

I have also lowered the amount for this wish. I feel like I have won this wish already, because of the amazing support.

The test strips for my current glucose meter cost almost $30.00 for only a bottle of 25 strips. The doctor insist I should test 4 times a day. I can not afford to test 4 times a day.
How much regular insulin I am suppose to give my self depends on testing results. (Sliding Scale) But I really can not afford to test 4 times a day.
Here is the math - 25 test strips last 5 days and that is only if I am not sick and need to test more often. So I am giving my self just 2 units of insulin 3 times a day and testing only once a day to make the test strips last.
I am suppose to give so many units of insulin on a sliding scale. Today's test showed 439.. I am creeping back up to 500 and 600 levels again and I know it is due to not testing and giving my self the right amount of insulin.

You may not believe this is a needy wish. But it is. I have no medical or drug insurance. Last May I ended up in the hospital with my blood sugar over 800. I have diabetic neuropathy in my feet and legs.

The only way I can prevent further damage is to control my diabetes.
The only way I can control my diabetes is to give my self the right amounts of insulin based on my test results.

I want to help my daughter remember that she is not worthless, so I am asking for cards for her.
I have put this in needy and I will explain why this is a need.


My daughter recently left an abusive husband after she tried to kill her self.
About 3 weeks ago she cut her wrist and was placed in a mental hospital. She said that all he had said and done to her was playing over and over in her head and she just wanted it to stop. They had to use a court order to admit her to prevent him from trying to remove her from the hospital.

She was released to our care and she is trying to get help with a divorce from legal services and with the help from an advocacy for abused women.

One of the biggest things keeping her from feeling better is guilt. She feels guilty about moving in with us, because she knows how we already struggle financially. She feels guilty because our youngest granddaughter had to leave an excellent high school for one that is sadly lacking academically.
In fact the high school in our town is so bad that my granddaughter was a junior in her previous school, had to be placed in a senior class. She could not finish 2 college courses she was taking in her other school because they do not have them here.

She feels guilty because she will have no money to buy either of her girls anything for Christmas.

She feels guilty because our oldest granddaughter will not have any financial help with her fees and books. One of the first things my SIL did was say he would not continue to help our granddaughter with college.

I have been thinking about this for a couple of days and I really believe if she got a bunch of cards, it would give her some hope. She needs hope and cheer.
