Help4ShelbyRose's Wishes

Past Wishes

a future for our 5 children and our family.

a future for our 5 children and our family.

We are a family of seven. My six year old daughter was recently in the pediatric ICU for 13 days followed by another 6 days on the regular floor. We were told the first night that we should start making arrangements for her funeral because she would not make it through the night. She is truly a fighter and has already fought so hard to live, I just wish that we could provide a little enjoyment now and security for the future.

We have tried getting assistance through DHS with medical, utility and food bills. We were told that our household income was $60.00/mth over the limit to receive help. We have managed to get my daughter who has Crohn's Disease on TennCare only after accumulating over $7000.00 in unpaid medical expenses. Even with TennCare we have to fight to get them to pay for almost every Rx that she needs. During this most recent hospital stay we had no income at all. My wife has managed to go back to work but we are a month behind on all of our bills...but starting to catch back up!

We are strong believers in taking responsibility for our debts, but we have reached a level that even that seems impossible. We do not go out to eat, go to the movies, go to theme parks or anything that is not a necessary expense. As adults, we understand that that's just the way life is and that someday it will get better. But its a little hard to explain to our five children ages 16, 14, 6, 5 & 5. Although the sixteen year old is a hard worker and takes care of many of her needs by working after school and on the weekends and during the Summer, its hard to watch her give up so much to help out.

My wish is simply for help getting back on our feet, so we can have some enjoyment before our children are grown and to be able to provide a good future for them.

Thank you everyone for take a moment to share our pain. If you would like to follow our progress you may feel free to access my daughter's care page at [ link ] Her page is titled "shelbyrose"

Her 1st grade class had a field trip to the Chattanooga aquarium during the time that she was in the hospital. She was really looking forward to going. When she was strong enough, she started looking at the calender and realized that she had missed the trip. It was heartbreaking to see the look on her face!! What she said next was amazingly grown up. "It's o.k. It won't be the same, but I can go with my brothers and sisters this summer. It will almost be as good!"

So for all of us to go just one time would cost as much as a one year family pass. Please help us grant this wish for our daughter.
