Carputer for my Car, and a Laptop for my fiancee

My fiancee and I are getting married in August. She is a Graduate student, and I will be starting back at college hopefully soon (for Nursing). I am currently an Emergency Medical Technician who does a sport called Geocaching for recreation.

Recently her laptop has decided to not work anymore, and I would love to see her with a new one that she could use for school. I am a serious technophile who loves to play with the newest toys, and would like to install a Carputer into my personal vehicle so when I get involved with the local volunteer fire department/ems agency in Virginia I can find calls easier since I will be new to the area.

For both items (the laptop for her and the carputer for me) it will run about $4000. (I want to see her with a decent laptop that we won't have to worry about upgrading for quiet some time).

It would be great if you could help make this come true ....

Starfire 31" Sword

I am a medievalist, and my friends want to get me to do live steel fighting which would be great for demonstrations at schools and in the public eye. But as I am getting married this year, my failing will be getting a sword to fight with.

My armor has been slowly being compiled over the last 6 years as I have had a few dollars here and there to put it all together. But the purchase of a steel quality sword for combat is a bigger expense.

My persona is a Knight Templar, and Starfire Swords, Ltd. sells a perfect sword for this type of endeavour. The $500 is including the Sword, Sheath and a Backstrap to hold the sheath.

I would really appreciate any help in this endeavour... thank you so much in advance for this.

Everyone to buy a package of Livestrong wristbands

For those of you who do not know,

Livestrong is Lance Armstrong's organization ... the wearing of these little yellow bands means you have supported cancer research ....

My wish is that we each take $10 this week and purchase a package of these wristbands to hand out to our friends and families ... For $10 you get 10 bands .... approximately $1 per band ....

What I would like to do is to get $100 so when I attend a medieval event Memorial Day weekend I can hand out 1 or 2 of these bands to everyone who attends. I belong to a medieval group called the Adrian Empire, and we have lost so many to various cancers ... and I would like to be able to have everyone who attends our event here in the Northeast to show their support of Cancer Research....

Just a reminder if everyone donates a little bit as well, even if I do not win ... I can still perhaps buy a few packages of the wristbands to hand out that weekend. (A Package of 10 costs just $10). We are expecting maybe 50 to 70 people to turn out that weekend.... with some coming from the Southeast and a few from out West, so I could send some home with them for them to hand out as well.

Thanks you again for your support in this endeavour.

I had placed a prized childhood toy on eBay to be sold so I could put money towards my wedding and my relocation from New York to Virginia to be closer to my fiancee.

I had sold the toy on eBay for a total of $170 dollars to a "collector" ... the collector gets it and informs me that the box is substandard (yes the toy was 20 years old with the orignal packaging). So I issue him a partial refund of $60 to be nice to the guy.

A week later he informs me that the toy is "broken" (keeping in mind that this was mint condition item when it was sent) ... so he places a claim with Paypal for the full amount of the item ... I plead my case, but they side with him in this.

Now the item is returned to me, missing pieces and with the item he is claimed broken, a substitution for the one I sent (mine had no markings and this one is scratched) so I file the appeal and they still decide in his favor.

Now I am out the cost of the sale ($170) plus an additional $60 for the partial refund I had issued him. I wish that I could recieve compensation for the the whole amount of this persons scam.... as this was money slated for my relocation and my wedding .....

Thank you for your time in this matter...

I am a NYS Emergency Medical Technician who will be relocating to Virginia as of May 15th (because I am getting married on August 11th to a most wonderful woman). I plan on getting active with the local volunteer (and/or professional) EMS agencies. Currently I do not know anything of the Virginia area and that is a hinderance to me providing quick response to the community.

There is a new technology out there called a "Carputer" which is a vehicle mounted computer system. Why I am asking for one of these items for my personal vehicle is that it allows for many functions including realtime traffic GPS system, which would allow me to route the quickest ways to calls.

In addition it is a full computer system that would also allow me to access electronic versions of many medical texts on site, as well as provide internet access in the cases where I need to look-up something quickly while enroute (or on scene) to help treat/diagnose a patient which is presenting atypically from what I have seen.

I am also planning on attending a nursing program to upgrade my credentials, so between work, school and volunteering I will be spending much time with my personal vehicle and this would give me the added benefits of having a laptop, while giving me so much more flexibility.

Additionally I am a Geocacher ([ link ] as a pasttime and this would be a nice added help to that sport (which I do to try to loose some unwanted weight and train my cardiovascular system).

I would be very grateful if you saw to grant this wish, so that I could help better myself and better serve the new community which I will soon be calling home.

Thank you for your time,

Chris (aka Kaeyron)

Livestrong Wristbands for Memorial Day Weekend

Some of you might remember this from last week .... but, I am wishing again ... and if I don't win for Memorial Day weekend, I will then start asking for Labor Day weekend.

I am a member of a Medieval group called Adrian Empire, and we have two big events per year where we gather from all over the Northeast to come together for fun and competition. We teach about various medieval conditions and skills (The Arts & Sciences, Archery and Combat Styles of that era).

But since I have been a member (for over 6 years), we have lost many a member across the country to cancer. As well as still have a few who are seeking treatment for it. And the loss has not only been our members, but their families.

Livestrong ([ link ] is Lance Armstrong's organization and the money they raise goes towards Cancer Research and Awareness. And what I would like to do is for every person in attendance, young & old, member & onlooker; is to have a box of these bands available to hand out. Showing our support of Livestrong's efforts.

A package of 10 costs $10, and a package of 100 costs $100. Roughly $1 per band. What I would like is to have 100 adult wristbands available and 20 childrens.

If you can all help me with this wish, I would be very happy ... as this is something that is close to me. About 3 years ago this december we lost someone who was very dear to me to cancer, this was a good friend who I met from this group. And those of us in the Northeast who knew him, consider him one of the best men that we have ever known..... and this is something I would like to do in his memory, but it is beyond my fiscal means.

Every little bit donated & every 5 stars will bring me closer to fulfilling this wish of mine.

Thank You,

Chris (aka Kaeyron)

Prop for Educational Demonstrations

Greetings,

As some of you are aware I belong to a Education Non-Profit [501(c)3 Organization] that specializes in teaching of Medieval culture and history. Part of this education is period style combat. Unlike some organizations we do what is called "Live Steel" combat meaning that we use actual metal swords along with our armors (some other groups use rattan which is cheap and gives the same bang) ...

To this end over the past 3 years I have been trying to amass my steel combat armor, which is almost complete... BUT, the snafu is that now I need to purchase a sword which can handle the rigors of steel combat.... and unfortunately those are not cheap. (and with a wedding quickly approaching I can not afford the purchase of a sword that I would feel safe with wielding).

A company called Starfire Swords, makes a blade that is both periodly accurate (all the better to show the children). This is a templar sword, and my persona is a Knight Templar ... so you can see how wonderful that works .. =)

Additionally, it comes minus the sheath and backstrap that would keep it in nice condition between combats.

So my wish is for the sword, sheath and backstrap so I can do steel demonstration to teach others (child and adult alike) about the medieval era and various styles of combat. I already do rapier, but would like to expand my abilities.... thank you so much for you understanding and help in this....

Thanks,

Chris (aka Kaeyron)

Help for my mother....

Help for my mother....

My mother has helped me with a lot during the course of my life, but in the past month she has decided to help pay movers to move me from NY to VA. Originally she had planned on only spending $1600 but this figure quickly doubled as the movers charge a lot to move from NY to VA wth the amount of furniture, books, and other such belongings that I have.

I would like to be able to repay her, so that she doesn't need to worry about money as much. I would like her to have the money that she could travel down (withouth concern) to see me get married this August. She is already planning on doing this, but this will allow her to do this without worrying about bills and such.

She has endured much during my life, being a single mother ... raising a child who was to various doctors and specialists. Working one or two jobs until she couldn't do it anymore. Helping to care for a sick father and brother towards the ends of their lives.

And when I was out sick from work for 2 of my last 3 weeks, due to cardiac related illness she helped me... and when because of benefit foul ups, I did not get paid for a few weeks ... she helped me again. My mother is a great woman, so many of my friends love ... and I would like to be able to do this for her.

I know I have been asking for a lot recently, and I just joined ... but I think this is a wonderful site...

My fiancee (who will be my wife as of August 11th) is a grad school student studying shakesperean literature. She has gone into this graduate program after finishing her undergraduate (a dual degree in history and biology) at the age of 19.

But her laptop that she purchased freshman year is on its last legs. The battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, we can't find a wireless network card for it and it is severly underpowered.

I would love to see her with a new laptop, but for some unknown reason she likes the Mac, and those are just expensive .... and she is a great woman, that I love very much .. so I would love to see her get what she wants .... and if this site is able to help, and even just make a dent in her laptop savings .... that would be great ... =)

Thank you for all your help and time in this matter,

I have noticed that there are a lot of people who downvote on wishes they feel are frivolous ... that they could just as easily skip over that wish and just not vote.

Perhaps for everyone to take a moment, trade places with that person who you feel has posted a wish frivolous, and before downvoting on a wish ... take a moment and message them and ask them their rationale.

Perhaps there is part of their thoughts they can not convey in a limited space ... perhaps you just can't see why their wish has merit.

And if you still feel that it is frivolous, realize a vote of 1 or 2 actually takes away from what another person thought about the wish ... that what you consider frivolous the other person felt was worthy ...

Perhaps for everyone to sit and think about maybe just skipping that wish ... and reserve your 1's and 2's for when people are wishing for harm to come to others ... when people are treading on the illegal or illicit.

If you don't agree with the wish poster, perhaps just not giving (or taking away) any points would be worthwhile as opposed to decreasing what another member thought of that wish. Place yourself in thier position ... how would you feel (or how do you feel) when someone comes over and downvotes on you?

Selah

Everyone to learn CPR

Something I think about a lot is that most people don't take a moment to learn about CPR and First Aid. I was an American Heart CPR instructor (until due to work scheduling conflicts I was unable to renew my certification).

But everyone should learn CPR, in the course they teach about the commons signs and symptoms (yes there is a difference) of people having a heart attack or having a stroke. They teach what you can do if you witness either event ...

It even instills in people the increased desire to help others. My path to becoming an EMT was the taking of a CPR class from a local EMS agency. And YOU knowing CPR can increase EMS's ability to save that person's life.

For every minute someone is down it decreases their chance of survival by 10% .... IF CPR is not administered.

For EMS to respond via the 911 system takes approximately 10 mins between you calling 911, and them dispatching an EMS provider and EMS actually arriving (unfortunately transporters haven't been invented yet).

Picture the scene, you call 911 (about 1 min to get your phone and call)... they take your information (2 mins ) .. they dispatch EMS ... if they are inhouse (about 1 to 2 mins for them to load into the ambulance) ... if they are not inhouse and are volunteers (about 4 to 5 mins to get to the house and then another 1 to 2 mins for them to load into the ambulance) ... they arrive on scene (about 3 mins) ... so from your call to them getting there you are looking at 5 to 10 mins ... meaning 50% to 100% chance the patient is not coming back if it was a true heart attack ....

Now if you know CPR ... you call 911 (or better yet have someone else call) and you start CPR ... CPR basically stops the clock on their decrease of survival. ... so even if it takes EMS 15 to 20 minutes to get to you .... the patients chance of survival is the same as when you started CPR.

The amount above is the cost of a Basic Community CPR class at the Red Cross or American Heart Association ....

My wish: Everyone who reads this, sign up for a class....

Any money won or donated because of this wish will be given to a local Red Cross of American Heart Center for the appropiate number of students to take the class, on ourselves.

Greetings,

I know many of you are probably sick of me ... but I appologize (I am actually going to start tapering down how many I post per week ... one naughty and one nice to go with it from now on)... I just recently relocated to scenic Virginia from NY ... and some furtniture did not make it in the move (Murphy's Law #42) .... prompting me to have to go find ways to acquire it.

As some of you know my fiancee (who will become my wife in August of this year) is a graduate student ... so books are at a premium in our house .... meaning I am in need of bookcases in addition to some other stuff. Additionally my couches were not fit to make the trip from NY. So we have no place to sit save the floor in the living room, as well as no place to sit outside.

We are also looking to try and acquire a dresser for the bedroom to put our clothes (living out of boxes is driving both of us batty)

We are looking on Freecycle for some of this stuff, but it seems no one is giving it away in the area .. we are also searching yardsales and the local goodwill store to the same effect.

Any help to acquire these items would be very much appreciated ...

So the money for this wish would be to help us acquire the following items:

1. One Large and One Medium Book Case
2. One Sofa set for the Living Room
3. One Patio Furniture Set (maybe a hammock)
4. Dresser for the Bedroom
5. Some shelving for the kitchen cabinets

Both of us are dealing with limited finances ... I moved to VA with no job lined up because I needed to be here to be considered a "valid" applicant ... and my fiancee is working full time hours at a part time position in addition to attending graduate school and teaching for supplemental income.

Thank you in advance for all your time and effort in this...
