We all remember middle school gym class and the dreaded mile run. Those were the days I lay in bed with a pretend fever, refusing to go to school. It seems as though my past has caught up with me.

Before January, I had never run a mile without stopping. Now, friends and are I training to run 26.2 With Donna, the inaugural National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer, in February of 2008.

When a friend was diagnosed, we decided to do our part and Go Big or Go Home. Donna Hicken, said it best: "Facing cancer is a lot like running a marathon - a long arduous race that challenges the body, mind, and spirit."

We've begun an ambitious fundraising effort for The Donna Hicken foundation, "...which funds the critical needs of underserved women with breast cancer. The Foundation has pledged to donate the majority of funds raised to Mayo Clinic for research and its Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic, which specializes in the detection and treatment of breast cancer."

Our training website was recently honored and recognized by Donna Hicken herself, two time breast cancer survivor, marathoner, and a Jacksonville News Anchor. The woman who has inspired thousands with her story and philanthropy efforts wrote, "This is an inspiration for ME!" and "Thanks again for the pump up!", and posted our site information on her marathon website.

This is my very first night at the Robin Hood Fund, and I'm amazed that a community like this exists. I knew immediately that I had to submit this wish, I hope I'm doing everything correctly.

For the first time in my life, I feel motivated and passionate about what I'm doing. I love challenging myself, and achieving the fundraising goal I've set for my team might even be harder than the physical training. It would mean so much to get this fundraising effort started with such an extraordinary public show of support and kindness from a community such as this. In the first 5 days, we've raised over $600, and are nearly 10% of the way to our goal.

I invite you to visit, and visit often to check in on us!

I thought this time I'd switch it up and go naughty. If you want the full story, please be sure to view my first Nice wish:

Here is the quick version: I'm not a runner. But, I'm training for a marathon in Jacksonville in February 2008, the first ever National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer. Along the way, I hope to raise $10,000 for breast cancer care and research.

I'm writing a training blog that tracks my progress, you can find it at:

You can also see that in a few short weeks, I've already raised over $1,250 towards my goal, in donations from friends and family.

Originally I tried to get money from the Robin Hood Fund that I could contribute to the cause. But there are so many more deserving nice wishes that I figured maybe this time I would be a little selfish, a little naughty.

It's going to cost a lot of money out of pocket to run in this marathon.

Race registration - $75
Plane tickets from DC to JAX - Around $250
Hotel for race weekend - $175
Running shoes and clothes for a year of training - $150 minimum.

I would also love to reward my sponsors with small gifts or tshirts, and I'm thinking about buying an iPod to be a prize in a raffle, or some sort of thing like that.

I'm a young guy, living and working in DC, and it would be great to have some of this financial burden lifted off of me.

Thanks so much for the support, and even if you don't vote for me, please take a look at the website!
