My cat Wire and I have been feeling a little lonely. I have been pining to adopt another cat but due to financial reasons I haven't. I already share a loving home with my 6 year old bengal cat Wire.
I have been following up on local rescues, and even particular breed rescues that I have been interested in. In general acquiring a cat ranges about 50$ and then you add shots, neutering/spaying, microchip-ing, buying additional food dishes, and litter trays, and more you are looking at approximately 500$.
So I'd like to take in another fuzz-ball be they a homeless cat from an SPCA, a "free kitten" from an unwanted litter, a pedigree cat up being retired.
By the way, the image is of my cat Wire lounging on what he has decided is his chair.
As I have had a lot of mention of 500$ being too much for a cat I am posting the price estimates I got from local shelters, breeders and vets.
Breeders are charging around 600-800$ for various breeds of kittens in the area and I've checked those not in the area and prices are generally the same. Retired breeding cats run for about 200$.
Here's the prices from my local SPCA:
Kittens: $195.00 (under 6 months)
Cats: $135.00
Health Checking: $50.00 - $100.00
De-worming: $35.00 - $50.00
Ear mites testing & treatment: $45.00 - $90.00
Flea treatment: $9.00 - $15.00
Vaccinations: $27.50 - $50.00
Spay/Neuter: $145.00 - $200.00
Microchip: $60.00 - $90.00
Total: 545$ (without the animal)
Of course $545 is the upper range estimate without the animal.
If any money is left over after putting the critter through vet checking and more then I can get food, litter, other equipment and toys for both so they can be happy. (more)
