I know that is a ridiculous sum of money! If I don't have an autologous (not embryonic) stem cell transplant I will likely die. I have a clotting disorder called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome that has caused me to have a heart attack and many strokes; and as is the case with autoimmune diseases, if you have one you have several. I am very happily married and I am an excellent professor. I make a huge impact in the lives of my students. I have so much left to give. The head of the curtain stealing troll

I bought some lovely curtains for our bedroom months ago. I hadn't put them up yet because, well, I hadn't. Today dawned with some newfound energy so I decided to take down the dining room curtains that were gracing our bedroom windows and put up the "new" curtains.

Imagine my distress upon discovering that the curtains have disappeared. They aren't in the bedroom. They aren't in the office. They aren't in the guest bedroom. They aren't in the den. They aren't in the living room. They aren't in the dining room. They simply are not.

If I win this wish I will have the funds to hunt down this obvious troll and put her (yes, her. she must be female because those curtains were fabulous) head on a stake in the front yard as a deterrent to other trolls. I would hate to get a shoe stealing troll or sore throat lozenge stealing troll, or a sharps container stealing troll. Oh, wait a minute... that one would be ok.

I need the head of the curtain stealing troll. I deserve the head of the curtain stealing troll. I promise to display it on a decorative stake and only improve the neighborhood with my new lawn ornament.

I am dealing with a company which clearly values money far more than human life. I realize I am just one person, someone they don't know or care about, but I am still a person. I can think and will and emote and reason and I can shape the fate of the world in my small way. Money only has the meaning we give it; it will never have the importance or value of a biological life. If this were a movie the bad guy would be played by Rufus Sewell and he would cackle as he chooses the briefcase full of unmarked bills over the life of a random stranger. How many of us would make that choice?

This issue isn't just about me or Cigna; this issue pertains to every human being on the planet. Can you think of anything that has as much importance as life? Life does not equal money or products or services. Life can only equal life.

Knowledge

I would like to understand the nature of obsession. Why do people choose to spend their precious time being obsessed over others? You see this frequently online which makes it even odder, to me. Why would you become so obsessed with someone that you would follow them around the internet just to post snarky comments about them?

Several different people followed me around RHF last night and dropped every comment I made, no matter what the content. If I wished someone well and told them I understood how they felt, dropped. This is the kind of action I am seeking to understand. I would venture a guess that many of us have had this happen to us in one way or another in our time online.

So, anyone have any knowledge to share? I would be forever grateful. Surely we can come up with an answer!

I put so much money on this wish to demonstrate that knowledge is priceless. If, by some fluke of the space/time continuum I win this round, the money will go to the second place winner in the nice category. (more)

The Best Friends Animal Society has stepped up and stepped in whenever animals have needed them. They were there for the victims of hurricane Katrina and they have recently stepped in to take over a sanctuary in New York that was in desperate need. This organization goes above and beyond for animals and seemingly doesn't turn them away. To read all about them: [ link ]
