Safe car seats to transport my grandchildren

I recently had to dispose of two older car seats when I discovered that they were not only well past the date they were legal to use but also saw they were beginning to come apart from age and much use (I have used them for some of my kids, and grandkids).
The seat I have displayed would do not only the two grandsons who are 4 and 2 years old now and as long as they need them, but would also be useful for other grandchildren or young passengers.

DETAILS OF CHANGE!

After consulting several car seat experts including a car seat tech instructor in our home province, we have come to the conclusion that what we need is a forward facing seat that converts to a booster for the 4 year old. We have chosen the Evenflo Traditions seat which sells for 129.99.

The 2 year old is only about 24-25 lbs and so will still be able to sit rear facing for a little while. For him we will get the Evenflo Triumph seat which allows rear facing until 30lbs and then converts to a forward facing car seat and retails for 149.99. We will also obtain a simple booster for 39.99 for when he is older. and which will be useful for transporting other children until then. , for example my 9 year old grandson who is over the age limit for legally needing the booster but still slightly under the weight limit.

My husband rides a 1985 Honda GL1200 Goldwing. On long trips it would be good for him to be able to stretch out his legs. If he had Kuryakin Highway pegs with adjustable offsets, the old man would be able to ride further, and still walk when he gets there.

A One Way Ticket for Mom to Visit

My mother is 84 years old. She is not well enough to travel by bus or train anymore, so I'd like her to be able to fly here for a visit at the same time as TforThomas comes in August. Mom has never met Thom's daughter Aelan, who will be 2 years in July, because of the distance and finances as well. Super Amanda Jane Smocking Pleater

I have learned how to smock (a type of embroidery) and a pleater would make this much easier and quicker to do. I would use the machine to make clothing for my beautiful granddaughter Aelan, and others. The pleater prepares the material before the embroidery is then done by hand. I have found one on ebay at a very good price.

Help Grandson Travel to ChessTournament

My grandson Cameron has played in some local Chess Tournaments and has earned the privilege of going to Ottawa,Ontario (a 12 hour bus ride) for a national Chess Competition. The $250 would help pay for his transportation by bus.
He will not need extra money for accommodation because he can stay with this father there.

To Give a Good Home to a Puppy

A year ago we lost our wonderful pet dog Jack. Jack was 13 years old and had been with us since he left his mother at 7 weeks of age. The reason I am asking $300 is because if I can find a free puppy, the money would go to cover spay or neuter and all of the required puppy needles. If I am going to have a pet I need to be sure they have proper medical care. This money would get us off to a good start. My children and grandchildren all think this is a very nice idea, and would help take care of the puppy. There are enough of us that it would not spend long hours alone. One of my closest friends lost her 12 year old dog last year too, within a month of my dog, so she would enjoy this puppy too.
Jack was half Lab, and the other half was German Shepherd and Norwegian Elkhound. So just a "mutt", but such a wonderful companion and a real member of the family.

A Bus Ticket to Sudbury for Audrey's Gallery Art Show

You might say this is a Naughty Wish, because it is for myself. However, I chose to put it in the Nice category because I think it will be a great encouragement and benefit for Audrey to have her Mom and Dad's support at this time. A Gallery Art Show is a big deal for a young artist and we would like this to be a good experience for Audrey. You can see a sampling of her talent at [ link ]
This next link shows the Northern Lights Festival Website. The musicians moving in and out of the picture are from a painting of Audrey's that the city has chosen to use in all of their posters for this years' event.

Sudbury is a 4 hour bus ride from Timmins, and costs about $60 Canadian one way for one adult. Two round trip tickets, I'm estimating at about $260 American so that both her Dad and I can enjoy the show and give Audrey a big hug! (more)

My daughter Audrey is an artist (as many of you already know).

I would like to purchase two framing hammers. One for my husband, KenH and one for Audrey's partner Scott who also does wood working. I'm sure Scott will loan his to Audrey or Ken , his, to me, if we wish to make our own frames. Peter and Ellen do not really have a spot for woodworking, but they can visit one of the two, if they wish to learn framing as well. The hammers are $21.50 each from Lee Valley and can be viewed at the following website.
If my wish wins the $43 will cover the cost of the two framing hammers, and I will pay for the shipping with my tips from work.

Plans to Build a Traditional English Shaving Horse

With Ken and a number of others in the family, including our youngest daughter who has taken a course in high school with great success, being interested in woodworking, this "work horse" would be an interesting project to build and then a great tool to use.
I would like to buy the plans for Ken and then he can build the bench.
One of Ken's dreams has always been to build a sail boat. I found this video, I don't know the people, but it expresses the dream!
I thought of this because some people are trying to arrange this week that a number of smaller wishes might win, and share the prize money. This happened in the past when the pot was $500 and it was a lot of fun. I'm hoping that we can get at least 4 winners in each category! That would be a lot of fun.

A Box of Robinhood Nanaimo Bar Mix

I enjoy Nanaimo Bars, and Ken does too. Until almost 2 years ago, we could purchase them in town, but since then we have been unable. So my wish is for enough money for our son Peter, in North Bay, Ontario to purchase a box of Robinhood Nanaimo Bar mix and send it on the bus to Timmins. (Approximately $4 for the mix and $6 to send it.)

According to legend, a group of friends in the 1930s in Nanaimo, B.C., found a fabulous recipe for a multi-layered treat... and christened it the Nanaimo Bar. Today, the city still takes its Nanaimo Bars seriously (the city's mascot 'Nanaimo Barney' is shaped like a giant bar) and so do we: our recipe, the Robin Hood Nanaimo Bar Mix is an easy three-step no-bake bar that tastes just like it should... simply delicious.

I don't know the little baker in the video, but she's diving right in! Very cute! I like her Nanaimo bars that much! (more)

A Stroller for a Mom Who Walks Everywhere

This wish is for Ambrotos.
A few weeks ago her stroller was stolen right out of her front yard! It was about two feet from her door, so not carelessly left around either. There were about 6 strollers out in front yards on her block, so clearly someone just walked along and took the one they wanted (hers had the biggest wheels)
As a single parent, with no car, there are times when the distances she has to cover are just too much for her 3 year old to walk. He is outgrowing the backpack she has for him, so that is not an option anymore. She needs a stroller that can be steered with one hand for those times when it is necessary to hold the stroller in one hand, and a flailing, protesting, 9 year old (with autism) in the other hand. We have long winters here in Northern Ontario, so big wheels are important if you don't want to get stuck in the snow.
She is exploring other ideas like Myzer and Freecycle, but nothing has come up yet. If she finds a 2nd hand one that is in good condition, I will alter this wish to reflect that. (more)

This is my second try to run this wish for my friend Flourmom. One of the less known members she, she is kind and generous with her time and energy to helping others.

Flourmom is called Grammy by her grandchildren. She has two who live here in town, and another four living about 5 hours away, who she sees once or twice a year. But her youngest daughter is living a two day bus trip away, and they have not seen each other for a very long time. Her daughter now has a little girl who Flourmom has never met.
She is saving to go see her daughter and meet baby Faith for the first time, hopefully in January. At that time Faith will be 18 months old.

Bus fare will be about $350, so the $100, if I win, will be a very big help to her.
She will not be flying, because to fly from here to there is over $1000!

This is my third attempt to win a wish for Flourmom. It is in the Nice category, because there are needs in that extended family that make this visit more than just a want.

For those of you who have not read the previous wishes, "Grammy" is what Flourmom's grandchildren call her. She has four children. Her youngest lives quite far away. By bus it will take two days to get there. By plane the cost would be over $1000, so bus will be the way of choice for this trip. Her youngest daughter has a 15 month old daughter named Faith, who Flourmom has not yet met. She is hoping to save enough money by January to cover the bus which will be about $350. Flourmom is on a fixed income (pension), but is doing her best to put money away for this trip. The $100 will help a lot, and will also encourage both Flourmom and her daughter.

Let's bring this family together!
The photo is my grandbaby not hers, but the emotion is how little Faith feels about not seeing her Grammy... let's bring those two together, and get Flourmom to post a picture in our Winner circle of the two of them, and perhaps her daughter too, having a great big hug when we help to get them together in January! Faith to See Her Grammy for the First Time

The Grammy on the Bus Goes Round and Round

Flourmom still is hoping to raise enough money to take a trip to Welland to see her grandbaby Faith, who is 16 months old. They have never seen each other yet.
That means this baby is now walking and beginning to talk, and doing all sorts of memorable things... and has never hugged her Grammy yet!
Flourmom is not too well known here in the forest, but she has been a help and encouragement to a number of members here and is a good friend to me personally.
With help from other members, especially AllyT, who lives on the other side of the world, we are trying to help this lady get to meet her youngest grandchild (the only daughter of her youngest daughter).
Bus fare will be about $350, and the trip will take about 24 hours because there will be a stopover in Toronto. There is no direct route. Flourmom is trying to set aside money toward her trip, but she is very thankful that we are wanting to help her out in this way!
