Ticket to surgery = $400. Travel expenses (including plane ticket) = $1200. (second try)
Up until December 11, 2004, I designed and taught a water aerobics program for people-of-size at the local public pool. It was a successful program, but my own physical problems came to a head, and I ended up on the disabled list as of January 29, 2005.
I am currently 441 pounds. I am in line to get weight loss surgery, but I'm having a hard time finding the funds to get to my surgeon. He's in Marietta, GA, and I live in a city very close to Seattle, WA.
The surgery I'm getting is called the Duodenal Switch. It's a very effective gastric bypass weight loss surgery, specifically given to people with over 50 BMI, I'm at 73. That's why I'm going to this specialist. This surgery provides both restriction and malabsorption.
My doctor and surgeon say this surgery is life-saving for me.
Just fyi, I've been on over 40 different diets over the years. I lost weight on all of them, but gained it all back and then some.
Yet, I'm trying hard. I work out in the pool still, doing water aerobics three times a week. Even though it is embarassing to be seen in a bathing suit at my size, I refuse to give up.
My medical conditions currently include: neuropathy, severe sleep apnea, borderline diabetes, depression, debilitating osteoarthritis, high blood pressure, and I had a close call with heart pain last year (I now take a diuretic and Ace inhibitor).
My surgery will be scheduled, hopefully in JULY, when my Medicare insurance is available to me.
I am asking for $400-$1200 for a plane ticket and/or travel expenses to get me to my weight loss surgery, with or without hotel expenses.
Flight and hotel fee for two weeks comes to about $1200. Plane fare is $400 of that.
Hoping and praying that you vote for me.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Anne
P.S. I used to work on contracts in the high-tech world. I also had a wonderful experience one summer as an autistic childrens tutor through a program called the Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes program. Best time of my life (career wise). Unfortunatly, I'm now disabled, but look forward to being able to work again after surgery. (more)
